What’s the media library for?
-
I was uploading pictures from my last travel to the media library, attached them to the post using the option in the library, next to the pictures, but I cannot see them in the posts. So now I am asking myself, what is the use of the library?
Is it simply to host your files so you can embed them in you posts or does it attach them to the end of the post either as link or thumbnail, which is not visible to me for what reason ever? Why is there an attach option in the library, if the items aren’t visible in the posts I attached them to? And yes it does state the post where I attached them to next to the pictures in the library, hence why I am assuming whatever it is, it worked.
Thanks again for the fast help :)The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When you upload pictures, they are usually attached to the post that you were working on when you uploaded them. When images are attached to a post, you can use the gallery feature to display them. But you don’t have to use a gallery to display the pictures.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/If you don’t use a gallery, however, you do need to insert images into the post one by one in order for them to become visible.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/If you upload an image directly to the media library (rather than from a post) you can still add it to a post or page. If a picture is not attached to a post:

thank you very much for teh reply and for trying to help, but I really appreciate if people read my post thoroughly first, before replying.
I did state that it was an issue with the media library, so only the last part of your post does even apply to what I stated. Furthermore I also stated already that I did upload the pictures directly to the media library and that I did attach them already, but that they are not being displayed in the post where I attached them to.
So unfortunately all you posted does not apply at all to my issue.
But thanks nevertheless.
I hope someone is able to help me out with this.
Once more, thanks in advance.PS: and yes I did check out all there is about the media library in the support section. but it’s absolutely useless, hence why I am posting this request.

“I did state that it was an issue with the media library”
Hello there. I may be thick-skulled but I cannot isolate exactly what your “issue” is and I have read your post three times now.
Will you please state your issue again please?
Once we volunteers can isolate exactly what your issue is, we will be able to determine if we can assist you or if you will have to file a support ticket for Staff to answer it. They are on “holiday hours” at present.

The question was simply: What is the Media Library for, since it is obviously not attaching the pictures to the posts (or at least not displaying them in the posts), even though in the media library list it does state the name of the posts the pictures are attached to.
I happened to believe I am capable to state issues properly, since I am tech support myself and believed I knew what was important to state to enable others to locate and solve the issue. I guess I have to work on that one :)
Thanks.

(1) You failed to post the urls to the posts with the missing images. Please do that now as it’s important information. Then we volunteers who are all on different operating systems and who use a variety of browsers can see if we can view the images or not.
(2) You failed to tell us which browser and version of it your are using. This is relevant because some bloggers who use Chrome and IE are reporting similar problems. Please do that now as it’s important information. Then we volunteers can experiment with different browsers and see what we get.
(3) You failed to tell us whether or not you have force refreshed which ever browser you are using, and cleared the cache and cookies and then signed in again. Please do what’s explained here http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/ and share the results with us volunteers.
(4) Additional information such as which operating system you are using, whether or not you are on highspeed service or dial-up, and whether or not you have had a recent security or anti-virus update will also be helpful. (The AVG anti-virus update has been causing issues for some bloggers.)
Thanks for supplying those details to use volunteers ie. your fellow bloggers so we can try to help you rather than shunting you off to Staff, who are on holiday hours.

(5) BTW you did not state whether or not you have alternate browsers you can use and whether or not you used them. It would also be helpful to know that too.

xD my bad!
Well I am using chrome, had the same issue with IE though. Refreshing and clearing cookies, history etc. did not work. I’m running vista sp2 and kaspersky 2010.
The post: http://sanshiru.wordpress.com/2009/12/24/a-christmas-carol-or-how-you-do-not-wish-to-spend-christmas/I think I fixed the problem thanks to something I read in the link you sent me in the comment (unless there is another way to display the pictures from the media library in posts without using the tag). I hadn’t added the [gallery]-tag since it wasn’t mentioned anywhere (or I might have overseen it).
Again: thanks for the help :)

You are welcome to all the help we fellow-blogger volunteers provide!
The question was simply: What is the Media Library for
The media library stores any and all pictures that you may or may not use on any post or page on your WordPress.com blog.
Beyond that, your question is not clear…

Yay! I can see two images with Firefox 3.5.6 in that post now. (Nudge: Firefox rocks!) lol :D This means you will not have to file a support ticket and wait for Staff to get to it. Issue resolved!
Also note that the volunteers here are extremely cool people who have figured out many workarounds to accomplish what may seem to be impossible. Take a look at Tess’s blog and know this: she does not have the CSS upgrade – that’s the Unsleepable theme. It has been altered by using Panos’s workarounds found in his blog http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/ and most likely has incorporated ideas from devblog’s excellent blog too http://csswiz.wordpress.com/
Also note that Tess gives every valuable advice on this forum and that we simply missed what your question was. That could be because it’s Boxing Day and our heads are a little fuzzy. So let’s all {{cyber HUG}} and make up, okay?
Welcome to wordpress.COM :)

I’ll accept that cyber hug and reciprocate. It’s 3 PM here on the far west coast of canuckistan, and that’s close to Happy Hour. So let’s raise our glasses in a toast to cultivating a closer friendship in the new year. {{CLINK}} :)

“thank you very much for teh reply and for trying to help, but I really appreciate if people read my post thoroughly first, before replying.” [etc etc.]
I, in turn, would appreciate it if you read replies thoroughly before complaining that they don’t apply.
You asked why there’s an attach option in the Media Library, and Tess told you about galleries, because that’s what the attach option is for (as Tess’s third link expressly states).
To insert an image in a post, you need to use the “Add an Image” button of the post editor (as Tess’s second link explains), not the option Media > Add New.
The option Media > Add New is useful when you want to upload an image without inserting it in a post (as Tess’s second link also explains), for instance when you just want to get an URL for an image.
