What's the protocol for comments?
-
I don’t expect very many people to be interested in my blog, but I’ve had some comments and I just wonder if the person who comments would expect a response.
Also I got an email that somebody is “following” my blog, but I couldn’t find a link to that person’s blog, nor do I know if I need to respond in some way to that person.
I’m really new at this stuff
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There isn’t a specific protocol for comments, but the majority of bloggers do reply to them and their readers do like to have replies. The thing about comments in a blog is that by replying to them, you are building community and people will want to return.
Commenting in other people’s blogs also helps your own blog as, providing there is a link back to your own blog on your name (which you have, if the blog you’re talking about is http://gimpwalker.wordpress.com), they can then click on it and go to your blog. That’s the best way for people to find blogs.
Someone who follows your blog has subscribed to it (follow is just WordPress’s new word for Subscribe) and is reading it usually on the ‘Read Blogs’ page or via email.
This will tell you about following a blog:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/following/
and this link to a blog of my own (on another account but still on WordPress) has advice on how to interact with and find readers for your blog:

I think it is polite to answer comments and I always try do so. and I always thank the person for reading and bothering to comment.

Yes, thanks, and this is exactly why I asked. I have a friend who blogs on another site and she says she has tried to reply but she doesn’t think her site will let her do it.
I really like WordPress and the community I’m finding here.
