What’s up with Comments????
-
Many people who have previously left several comments on my blog are now having their comments “vanish into thin air”…and then two days later I find them in Akismet!?!?!
I’ve de-spammed them and yet they STILL go to purgatory.
I recently changed template design and I’m wondering if that’s it??
Is this a recent problem?… because this has never happened before.
Any insight would be appreciated…thanks everyone!

I think there was a similar problem with some comments I made on a site over the weekend. It led to a misunderstanding because I thought they had been deleted on purpose!

This is not theme related. Send a feedback in to staff including all pertinent information.

Thanks Guys!
I really appreciate your replys. Thanks for letting me know that it’s NOT theme related.
I contacted WordPress this morning…..but still no answer. Looking through the forum, I see that it’s happening to quite a few people.Oh well….patience I guess???
Much thanks!

That’s strange: I’m not seeing a single other thread on the topic. Where are these other threads on this? Are you sure they’re current? We had this happening several months ago, but nothing recently to my memory.
If you mean comments going to Akismet, yes, that happens all the time. But the failure to un-spam is not common at all.

I had something similar happen. A friend left a comment on my teaching blog and asked me if I had seen it in a PM. I told him no. I checked Akismet and nada. I’ve noticed lately that my spam count will be the same but new stuff is showing up in Akismet all the time. So I just assumed that this comment would eventually show up in Akismet, and it did. I despammed the comment. I’ll PM my friend and ask him to submit a test comment and see if it goes through. If not and if it doesn’t show up in Akismet, then I’ll email staff.

Just to update (and yes I’m in the process of writing the feedback)… I had my friend post a test comment. It’s nowhere to be seen. Not in the moderation queue nor in Akismet. And the spam count in the stats didn’t increment either.

The same thing has happened to me, twice now, on two different blogs with different themes. I re-submitted my comment on one site and ta daaa! Double comment. Refrained from doing so on my blog and, well, the comment just never appeared.
-
Ok, I found my own comment submitted on my own blog I was logged in to in Akismet. How does that happen?
-
Akismet is thinking it’s spam either based on the comment text or based on your IP address. You’ll just need to train Akismet to know you’re legit.
-
Hey Everyone,
Thanks for your replies!
Now…..Akismet is placing MY OWN comments in spam!?!?!?!?
I have to “de-spam” myself!
Is’nt this fun?
I guess eventually they will figure it out?
Taming the BEAST!

I’m having problems too. One comment yesterday was put into the moderation queue even though I don’t have that set up. A comment today has not shown up, even though the reader has commented many times before.

The moderation queue is not just for when you want comments moderated: it’s where Akismet puts the ones it’s not sure about.

Just remember that we should blame the spammers for this – Akismet, like other machines, just follows instructions. With the spammers constantly trying to find ways around it trying to get the balance right would be a never-ending task.
Without the efforts of Akismet blogging would be impossible – buried under a tsunami of spam. Having the occasional comment, no matter how worthy, go astray is a small price to pay for that.
