What's with the non-intuitive nature of WordPress?!?!
-
WordPress.com is a turnkey blogging solution. It’s easy to use.
It is NOT set up to be easily customizable; that is not its purpose. For that, there is WordPress.org.
People get frustrated when they try to do something with software that isn’t built for it; in this case, the software is built to actively resist customization, because of the nature of the shared blogging platform. If you just want to blog, then this is the best place for it. If you want to customize websites, but you don’t want to learn coding, then I don’t have any suggestions to make.

Hey Raincoaster,
Great name, btw! I would love to learn coding, but haven’t considered it until your mention. Good points on the limits of customization on WP, for site-building.
thanks!

WordPress.COM is designed to not get you in trouble and get you blogging in literally under 5 minutes – which it does well – it is content driven – the editor is I think done by someone else with probably a few tweaks in it – the editor has been a sore point on both the .ORG & .COM side since before I started using it (over 4 years ago) – I would like it to do tables for instance – on .ORG things are very flexible and that is why you have so many Plugin’s – (for tables by the way) – the expand hooks are built in – here for security reasons Plugin’s are not allowed but that also is why there are so many Widgets
The good news – WordPress.COM is easy to use – the bad news WordPress.COM is easy to use, so many people don’t take a bit of time to see how it works
Overall I like it here – moved here from a .ORG install – no regrets
