What's wrong with my sidebar?w

I messed around changing themes and when I went back to my original, I had lost my sidebar menu which listed the main subjects and the sub categories that went with them. Something weird is there in the sidebar now, and I don’t know what it is, or how to get rid of it.

Howdy!
Switching themes deactivated your previous theme’s widgets. You can find your lost menu widget in the Inactive Widgets area under Appearance -> Widgets. You can also change or add new widgets to the sidebar here.

Thanks, what you said made perfect sense. However when I went to inactive widgets, I couldn’t identify what I used to have in my sidebar. Also, how do I get rid of the gobbledegook that’s there now?John

Somehow I did what I needed to do, without knowing I did it. Now, I’d like to get rid of two things in my sidebar, Archives and Categories. I can’t find those widgets in my sidebar menu to remove them. Actually, I can’t find any widgets in my sidebar menu.John

Howdy John,
Those are the default widgets that appear in Misty Look if no other widgets are activated. To remove them, you can add some new widgets to your Sidebar under Appearance -> Widgets. The defaults will disappear, to be replaced by your custom selections.
If you wanted to keep the Pages widget but remove Archives and Categories, for example, you would simply drag and drop a new Pages widget into the Sidebar area.
You can clean out the Inactive Widgets area by dragging and dropping each inactive widget into the Available Widgets section above.
