When a blogger passes on……..

A dear friend of mine had a WordPress blog for several years. It was initally public but when he got a high profile job he made it private and at the time it was limited to 35 users. Unfortunately my friend contracted lung disease and passed away in April 2012.

His writing was of a very high standard and his friends and family still visit and read the many articles there. As the blog is dormant and will not be added to, his family are concerned that WordPress may take the blog down.

The blog & articles are my friend’s legacy and his family and friends derive great comfort from being able to access it. Can anyone tell me WordPress’s policy on such matters?

It would be good if the blog could be preserved. Is there any way of ensuring this?

The blog will remain as long as WordPress remains.

There is no expiration date here on any blog and as long as WordPress.com exists and is online that blog will exist and be online too.

Relax – the WordPress.COM is not to delete a blog unless it is a Terms of Service violation – there is no requirement for anyone to post on a blog or use a blog – you can visit all you want – the blog should live on until the end of the internet or until WordPress.COM goes away – visit the blog all you want – glad it helps his friends remember him – there have been several memorial sites set up here because the blogs here live on essentially forever

But if it will make you feel better I will flag this for the staff to help and tell you about the same thing

Why thank you all for your very quick and reassuring replies!!

  • We wont take the blog down. WordPress.com blogs will remain online as long as we remain online, or their owners choose to delete them.
