When a wordpress blog is set to private, will search engines still index it?

When a WordPress blog is set to ‘private’ will search engines still
    index it ?

In the settings’ section, under the ‘reading’ pane in wordpress.com,
one has the following three options:

    1. Allow search engines to index this site.
    2. Ask search engines not to index this site.
    3. I would like my blog to be visible only to users I choose.

    Now my question:
when choosing the 3rd option, will this also stop search engines
from indexing and crawling the site, and subsequently the blog
never showing up in search results?
I don’t want the blog to show up in search results.

    Thanks for your help.

    3) will keep search engines out, but if the site has already been indexed, the old content will still be on the web in the cache of search engines

    Thank you auxclass.

But how come that when adding a page to a private blog,
on the right hand side it always initially still shows ‘visibility = public’ , and one has to manually edit this to private for each page ??

Is there a way to change this, that each added page is automatically set to ‘visibility = private’ ?

    Thank you for your help.

If you set visibility to private, then only you will be able to read it: authorized readers of the blog will not be able to see it. The page or post has to be public, on a private blog, for the authorized people to be able to see it.
