When an email with full text is opened — does that count to Site Stats?

If I send everyone the full text of a post, and they open the e-mail, does WordPress count this towards views of my blog?

It’s possible because the e-mails might include single-pixel GIFs to help with this (provided the reader allows images in the e-mail reader they’re using).

It’s possible that WordPress only counts actual clicks that land on the web-site. But then this means that the Site Stats are dramatically understated.

    Thanks!

No. Reading an email is not the same as actually visiting the blog.

Go here > Settings > Reading and chnge you RSS Feed to “summary”. Then you readers will only fet the beginnings of your posts and will have to visit the mlog to read the whole post.

Some email clients display images and even videos – some don’t. Your feed is displaying media (image) files http://fourisafamily.wordpress.com/feed/ abd if they aren’t displaying in the email client readers use there’s bothing that can be done about that.

Information of site stats is found at this link > http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/

P.S. The bold lettering above is hard on the eyes so please avoid using it.

The bold wasn’t entirely me; I selected the first few words and clicked on “Strong” and, oops, it’s all bold. Sorry…

The problem with NOT counting emails with full text (and it can be done most of the time) is that’s ignoring the ‘views’ of posts. Probably a lot of posts.

The problem with only sending summaries and not knowing where WordPress will cut off the text is that a lot of people just won’t bother to go to the site at all if it doesn’t seem like an interesting post.

Overall, summaries have a dampening effect on readership and this means my own Site Stats (12,000+) are probably way lower than the real views of individual blog posts over the last year. Darn.

    Thanks for replying.

I should have guessed this was an open tag – I’m sorry.

Using the summary setting means one has to learn how to create an interesting teaser – brevity is the key. Also note you can count the number of characters including spaces in the summary produced by any theme. And in themes that have active excerpt boxes you can create a customized teaser text that will “fit”.

P.S. Speaking of open HTML tags it’s okay to laugh as I just did it too. :D
