when creating new “widget” category how to delete duplicates

  Hi,

  I have tried to read up and solve this on my own but I haven’t seen an answer yet.

  I do not understand why there is an add category ‘widget’ when once you give it a title it pulls in all the other categories from the main category giving you two titles of the exact same categories.

  I would like to be able to guide certain posts (not links) into different headings:

  such as:

  Pet photo clients: as one heading with all posts underneath
  other photos: as another heading with all posts underneath

  How is this done?

  Even though you can add multiple category widgets, they will all contain the same information. We are all confused as to why wordpress did that and what they had in mind when they did it.

  There are two ways to accomplish what you want:

  1. Make “Pet photo clients” a category and then create child categories under that to separate things out and assign those child categories to the posts you want under that “Pet photo clients” heading. In appearances > widgets, edit the category widget and select “Show hierarchy.” Most themes support hierarchical categories, but there are a few that do not. If your theme does, then the child categories should be indented below the parent category.

  2. The second way is by using text widgets and coding things into them your self. If you go this route, you can use the post editor to easily create the text and links in the visual editor and then switch to the HTML tab, copy everything that is there and then paste it into the text widget.

  You’re welcome. The multiple categories widgets are a complete mystery – probably even to wordpress staff since they have never offered any explanation.
