When does an edited post get changed on the search engines?

I changed the text of a post some time last week but on google, when I press the arrow to the left of the post, it still shows the image of the screen with the old text. How long does it take to change? Does it change at all? Should I just delete the post and create a new one? Would the deleted post then be gone or would it still be up there?

Hi Barbara,
WordPress.com automatically sends notifications to Google with every post and page update. The search engines can take 4-6 weeks or more to add any new sites.
