When I click on the Twitter icon on my site, the entire blog is published. How to avoid this?

I want to tweet a reference to my blog, but when I click on the icon on my home page, the entire blog is published on Twitter. Obviously, I don’t want this and I seem to remember earlier on, this didn’t happen, so how can I just tweet the URL and a reference to what it is about?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Me again. I’ve just had two emails from new Twitter followers who’ve picked up my latest WP blogs on Twitter. Without me clicking on the Twitter icon the URL and a couple of lines of info. have been printed on my Twitter file. Has it somehow fixed itself? And, although it has publicised my recent 3 blogs, anything before that isn’t there. Do I now do something else to tweet these?

  • Hi there,

The Twitter share button shares the URL of whatever page you are on when you click it. So, if you click it on the home page it will share the URL, https://travelsineuropeandasia.wordpress.com/ If you click it while viewing a post, it will share that post’s URL, for example: https://travelsineuropeandasia.wordpress.com/2015/10/27/a-misunderstanding-at-nether-fondle/

Publicize works differently and separately from the sharing buttons. If you have Publicize connected to Twitter, it will tweet the URL and post title for every new post you publish after making the connection. Posts published before you connected Publicize won’t share automatically, and pages won’t share at all.

If any posts were missed by Publicize, which sometimes happens if there’s a problem with the connection, you need to share them manually by using the Twitter share button on those posts, or by sharing the links directly in new Tweets you create yourself on Twitter.

Thank you for that. I think I understand now, how it works. I have activated Publicize recently and probably that’s why the last 3 were tweeted properly. Great to have it explained. Thans again.

  • You’re very welcome.

Let me know if I can help with anything else.
