When I edit a post to add a link to another post…
-
On my blog I have several “series” of separate posts related to certain specific subjects, so I want to include (at the end of each post) a list of “Other Posts in the [whatever] Series” so that a reader can jump easily to whichever other one seems of interest. Because I will be continually adding posts to each series, that means I have to go back into all of the existing posts and add each new ‘entry’.
(I know that there is a plugin named YARPP that can automatic this sort of thing but understand that it is not available for WP.com blogs… darnit!)
Anyway, I notice that every time I go into an existing post to add the newest link, it creates a “New Comment” in my feed. Is this supposed to happen? Is there some reason that WP would treat the addition of an internal link as a “comment” even though I have placed it into the text body of the post and not added it as a Comment in the typical way?
I just delete these ‘faux comments’ to get them out of the Comments queue but am still wondering if it’s supposed to behave like that, or if I’m somehow doing something wrong, LOL
(I do have the individual series’ grouped in their own subcategories, but also know that for SEO purposes internal links are advantageous.)
Thanks!

https://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/06/30/posts-on-pages/ There is your solution. If you really want to stick with the system you have, disallow self-pings and pingbacks. That setting is on Settings->Discussion on your dashboard.

Many thanks! So… I should uncheck BOTH of these “default” options? Or does only one of them apply to my situation?
“Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article”
and also
“Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks)”I see nothing on Settings>Discussion that mentions self-pings though…
(btw, where is my “forum topic subscription settings” hidden? I want to thank someone who responded to an earlier question of mine, but without having to scroll through pages of postings, LOL)
Also notice that

Uncheck the first.
If you click the word Member under your name you will get your forum posts page. If you click Favorites you should see your subscriptions.

Oh, perfect, thank you SO much! “Member” was probably the one think I’d failed to click on!
Have a great weekend! -
I had this same question about pingbacks and found this page that tells how to stop self-pings: https://en.support.wordpress.com/comments/pingbacks/#can-i-stop-self-pings
