When I hit publish, it schedules my post. When I hit schedule, it posts…
-
Lately, when I write a post from the [+ pencil] sign on the top right corner, I have the usual [publish] button at the bottom right, but then when I hit it, I have a message that my post has been successfully scheduled. Eventually, I figured out that when I change the status to [schedule] and then click the now [schedule] button, my post is published right away.
It would be nice if you could fix this problem :-)

Hello dawnsnight,
Hmm, that’s interesting! It might sound obvious, but can you try clearing your browser’s cache/cookies and signing in again? Publish a test post, let’s see how it behaves then.
Just to make sure your browser isn’t the culprit, as we’re not experiencing this issue. If the above test fails, would be great if you can do it with another browser.
-
I am no IT specialist, far from it, but I just ran MacKeeper on my laptop, so I think that would have gotten rid of all cookies too, wouldn’t it?
This problem happened before and after I ran the program. If you don’t think that should have cleared cache and cookies, then please tell me more specifically what I should do.
Also, while I’m actually talking with someone in the know: I can’t seem to reply to comments from my phone (not from an app but from the web directly). When I click on the bell for notifications, I often get to see them, then when I type my reply to a comment and press ‘send’… nothing :-/ -
Are you still having issue with the publish button? Have you tried changing your browser, try via Safari if you’re on Chrome or vice versa?
As for the second problem, can you tell us what browser gives this problem on your phone?
If the issue isn’t resolving, I can tag this thread for Staff assistance, but please do tell us what browsers are you using on desktop/mobile.

I have a similar issue. Recent upgrades have made me unable to schedule posts. If I set a future date it ends up as either draft or published and visible to the world. Scheduling doesn’t work like it did only a few days ago.
Is this issue being rectified?
-
I think I have the same issue too… The posts won’t publish, it always go to the scheduled one or draft one. If i click published on the scheduled one it goes to the draft one. If i click published on the draft one it goes to the scheduled one… I run it on the app in my ios phone… What should I do???

Hi everyone,
I was unable to replicate this on my setup. Would it be possible to write out the exact steps to reproduce?
@dawnsnight could you also confirm you are using Firefox on OSX?
@stevecharlie and anggelasadeli13 are you both on the moible app? If so, let us know which version of the app and on which platform in a new thread (as it is not related to this one :) ). If not could you let us know more information about your set up and steps to reproduce.

Sorry, I was out for most of last week.
Yes, I use Firefox on OSX 10.6.8 at the moment, trying to keep upgrading.
I use and android smartphone.
I think it doesn’t happen when I access the ‘new post’ icon through my wordpress window. However, if I use the pencil icon on someone else’s blog, it tends to do that.
I also have encountered a problem with the size of the window that opens to type a new post. It sometimes turns out only about 5 lines long, which makes typing and publishing a post a pain. -
I actually think that stevecharlie’s problem might be related to my own. At least, I realised that when I change the post’s status to schedule and press the schedule button, it posts. When I press a post button (status being publish now), it schedules.
To answer one of the questions that was asked, I haven’t tried changing the browser. -

I still haven’t been able to replicate the issue on our end. To confirm you are doing the following:
1) Pressing the pencil (new blog) icon on a site that is not your own.
2) Setting the status to scheduled then back to publish now
3) Seeing the post be scheduled instead of published. If you could provide us of a post where this happened that may help us track it down.
In the mean time, could you try another browser and let us know how that goes?
I also have encountered a problem with the size of the window that opens to type a new post. It sometimes turns out only about 5 lines long, which makes typing and publishing a post a pain.
I have been able to replicate this. I found the solution to be to resize (drag the window smaller than larger) the browser. Alternatively, you could refresh the page.

It doesn’t quite happen the way you described it.
I press the pencil from someone else’s blog.
I type my post, the ‘post immediately’ line is selected. The publish button is at the bottom of the page
I eventually press publish, my computer processes it and I have a message that says “Your post has been successfully scheduled” or something of the like.
If, then, I change the status to schedule, I get a schedule button at the bottom of the page.
After many frustrated tries with many posts, I realised that if I then press the ‘schedule’ button, I got a message “You’ve just published a new post” or similar.
I am not certain of a specific post it happened with. It could be any post during the month of June I think. It happened more than a few times (probably more than 5 or 6 times, it may be more. I’ll admit to not having paid attention to these things, just become frustrated :-/).I am not sure what you mean by “drag the window smaller than larger”. The window is already too small for me to type comfortably, I don’t need it to become even smaller!
I’ll try to refresh the page next time it happens and will let you know. -
Hi Dawn,
Thanks for the additional details, I’m still not able to reproduce the problem. I do have a few ideas though.
1) Try clearing your cookies and cache
https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/2) Try another browser such as Chrome or Safari
3) Try (and then bookmark) the direct link to the posts page:
https://wordpress.com/postI am not sure what you mean by “drag the window smaller than larger”.
Happy to clarify, by window I mean your browser window not the content editor. In other words drag your Firefox window smaller and then resize it back to where it was.
-
Thank you for clarifying. I think I was puzzled by the ‘smaller than larger’, as in comparison, as opposed to what you then answered ‘smaller then larger’, as in succession :-)
It is good to know that you meant the browser window too, as I thought you meant the content editor.
I’ll try to follow the other steps you have included.
However, since I now know that pressing schedule will publish my post, it’s not so annoying any more.
I’ll try your suggestions and will let you know if I have more problems related to this.
Thank you for your assistance. -
Hi, I thought I’d let you know that it just happened again with the last post I published “Realisation”.
I am wondering: I have installed an anti-virus not long ago (after this problem had started, but I had some occurrences after the installation). You said I should try to clear my cookies and cache. Would the antivirus not do that? If it does, then surely it should have solved the problem (from what you are suggesting), which it didn’t.
If it doesn’t clear my cookies and cache, can you please tell me exactly what steps I need to take to do it?Also: I have tried your trick of making the window smaller then bigger, I’m happy to report it worked!
Thank you -

If it doesn’t clear my cookies and cache, can you please tell me exactly what steps I need to take to do it?As clearing your cookies and cache is done at the browser level most anti-virus software will not clear the cookies and cache.
Here is the guide Firefox has published on clearing your cookies:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-clear-firefox-cacheAnd for cookies:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/delete-cookies-remove-info-websites-storedOut of curiosity have, you tried publishing with Chrome or Safari? If so, do they have the problem.
-
No, I have never tried publishing with either of these browsers. I have Mozilla installed on my desktop and use this browser, I’m now used to it…
Thank you for the links. I’ll look into them tomorrow.

Hello,
I finally had time and access to a network and looked at the link you sent on clearing the cache. It wasn't easy, as things look different on my Mac than what was described in the support window you sent. I managed to do it still. I'm hoping this will help with the 'schedule' versus 'publish' problem, which has kept occurring.Yesterday, I have also had the problem of a post being shown as published before another one that had been published already.
And now, I'm trying to link to a previous post and the menu doesn't show me any option, even when I type a search word.
Things seemed to work mostly fine before you changed the platform. Now I am frustrated because I have to click twice on posts from my reader to access them, when I comment from the reader on my laptop I don't have the option to receive new comments and I can't post comments from my phone. Not to mention the fact that a third of the page is not visible because of some drop down menu that won't go away but doesn't show properly either (I only have the pictures, not the actual words describing them, like 'stats' 'posts' and so on).
Do you have any insight on how to solve these problems? -
Just to let you know… I did clear my cache and cookies and I still have the same problem of “Schedule” vs “Publish” and vice versa…
-
I have this same problem now with the new, improved interface. I’m using Chrome and whenever I create a new post and hit “Publish” (while it’s definitely set to “Publish immediately”) it schedules it instead (but for the few minutes earlier when I started creating it, so it doesn’t post at all). If I change the time to a later time, it will eventually appear and publish as a scheduled post, or if go into my scheduled drafts and hit Publish I can usually get it to Publish, but once I had to try this twice before it would do so.
Not sure what’s going on, but it just started happening this past week. AND when this happens and I try to force it to publish as described above, I get complaints from my readers that the post didn’t show up in their WordPress Reader. (luckily many subscribe via email, but it’s very frustrating)
-
@doodlewash can you confirm whether you have the same issue in another browser? Can you also make sure your system time is correct?
