when I make a post, I have to upload it about 10 times before it finally showsup
-
why does the blog keep erasing my posts after I press “publish”?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
Can you send me a link to a post that you experienced this?
When you click publish, what happens? Are you given the “Post Published” notice?
Hope you’re enjoying Austin :-)
-
Thanks for your help. Please note that the blog url is not the dianasolomon one but is flexpat.wordpress.com. Here’s a link to the most recent post where this happened (though it’s been happening for a while):
http://flexpat.wordpress.com/2014/01/06/austin-bat-shit-and-chicken-shit-crazy/
Austin’s great, so far, though I’ve been here less than a week. Are you from Austin?
-
Thanks.
When you click “Publish” and it fails, what happens? Does it give acknowledge that it is published, gives an error message, or simply doesn’t do anything?
Does this happen for you anywhere, or only when on a specific computer or a specific network (e.g. UT’s vs your home Internet)?
I’m not originally from Austin; moved here for UT ~12 years ago and decided to stick around.

When I click “publish” it indicates that the post has been published. I then click “View Post” and it’s all there. But then when I try to access the page straight from the flexpat.wordpress.com link there is no sign of the post. When I check the dashboard it lists the post as a draft. I try to post it again and the same thing happens. It happens regardless of computer or network (though I’ve only tried on 2 computers).
Any Austin suggestions you’d care to share would be most welcome. I’ll be here for another 3 months and look forward to exploring.
cheers, Diana

Thanks for your patience with troubleshooting this.
When you visit flexpat.wordpress.com after publishing, does simply refreshing the page make any difference? (I would assume no).
Is this happening on both of your sites, or just the one?
We’ve heard isolated cases of something like this occurring, though it is striking to me that it is happening with regularity for you. I’m asking our developers for guidance as the few times I’ve seen this in the last year or so, it would be a single, one-off occurrence for an user, then back to normal.
Thanks again for your patience.
As far as Austin spots, there’s a nice pocket of good eats on Manor near Cherrywood. About half of the places along Manor between Chicon and Cherrywood are older classics (Hoovers, Eastside Cafe, etc) and about half are new-ish, within the last couple of years.
Uchiko on Lamar near ~43rd is excellent. The executive chef, Ty Cole, also runs Uchi on South Lamar, a shortways south of the river. The former is Japanese “farmhouse” style, while the latter is more modern. Both on the pricy end of the spectrum, but good. I don’t know what I’m ordering at places like that, so my wife and I trust the wait staff :-)
While I’m talking foodie stuff. Paul Qui (a Top Chef winner) has a fancy place, Qui, that I’ve heard is good, but haven’t been. He has a more modest option with Eastside Kings. They’re a few trucks around town, but they have a brick-and-mortar on South Lamar, between 290 and Oltorf.
A Tower tour on campus is great. Cheap ($5) and a nice scenic view of Austin, though with the new highrises downtown, might not be as vast a view as before! Barton Springs Pool is fun to check out.
A few ideas :-) Cheers!

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it is happening every time with flexpat. It does not seem to happen with dianasolomon, although I don’t generally add new posts to that site; all I do is update my CV.
And I appreciate all the Austin suggestions! Thanks! A Tower tour is high on my must-do list. I hope I’m here long enough to enjoy Barton Springs Pool–I had no idea Austin had an arctic climate ;-)

Would it be okay for me to publish—and take down—a test post or two? I can’t disable followers from being notified, but I’ll uncheck the options for Twitter/Facebook (if you have them enabled).
This is crazy weather. Soon enough, we’ll hit 100°. :-)
-
go right ahead. I don’t think there are any followers. There’s certainly no twitter/facebook.
and yes, Austin people seem confident that this weather system is a blip. The thing is, after this I have to go back to Vancouver. so I’ll take the 100 degrees.

Hmm. We may have an Heisenbug. I wasn’t able to duplicate the issue this morning with a couple of test posts.
I’m awaiting further suggestions from our developers in terms of how to troubleshoot this further.
Vancouver is a great place. I was there for a week back in November. The Classical Chinese Garden was beautiful as was running the loop around Stanley Park. If we were ever to leave Austin, have a summer residence, or something like that, it would be near the top of the list to consider! Maybe a house swap in July ;-)
Cheers!

Hi–
I just did a test post myself, and this time it stayed up there–? But I’m still reluctant to consider this ‘solved’ or to post anything of length. Just fyi…
Glad you liked Vancouver, even in November! My apartment is two blocks from Stanley Park, so I take my dog there every morning to see the swans at Lost Lagoon. Hmm…I’d do an apartment swap in March or April…
cheers, Diana

I’m not thinking it is solved yet either, perhaps tabled until we can duplicate it.
When it reverts back to draft status, is the complete post still there, only the status changed? Or do you miss some recent revisions as well?
-
It varies. During the most recent post, it consistently undid all of my edits, including those in the title and the photo captions. During previous posts, it sometimes retained the changes and sometimes dropped them.
-
If it happens to you again (I’m going to use the hopeful “if”), can you check the revisions of the post. There is a “Browse” link in the same box as the Publish button.
With the isolated cases, what has happened is that the save “took”, but a previous revision was being used. The revision browsing had the saved change, which could be “reverted” to and published.
As you can imagine, a bug like this that is usually almost impossible to reproduce is a thorn in our side.
Thanks for your patience again. :-)

I’ll be sure to do that the next time I post. Thank you for your help. Hopefully this is the end of it…
cheers, Diana
