When i make my site mobile responsive, it changes the desktop version as well

Hello there…
I found out only ones I finished my website, that it is smart to work simultaneously on the responsiveness for the mobile and tablet. So now I find myself adjusting little things on the mobile version and tablet version. But when I switch back to, let’s say from mobile to desktop, I see everything I adjusted on the mobile version is also adjusted on my desktop. The same goes for the tablet. Which is very annoying because it makes a big difference.
I saw a tutorial where it doesn’t do this. Does anybody have some tips for me? I am almost there to share my site with my clients! :)

How do you actually make it responsive? All I see in the editor or WordPress cos is an option to see how it looks across desktop, tablet and phone but no way to set attributes separately for each?

Apparently, that option of checking how it looks on mobile and tablet version is the way to adapt it. That is at least what i got from doing a bit of research on youtube.
