When I permanently delete a page, will its images remain in my media library?

I have several privately published pages that I want to delete, but want their attached images to stay in my media library (hopefully, then unattached, so I can attach them to the posts where they really belong!).

Will this work, or will the images disappear from my library (and from other posts I have put them in) after I permanently delete the page they are attached to????

I never realized that images already attached to another page or post can’t be reattached to another one, have to be completely re-uploaded from my computer! This is causing a lot of problems for setting featured images in posts all of whose images were first uploaded and attached in private pages

(i know it sounds crazy but that was my workaround for the problem I had of always hitting “publish” prematurely when working on a post).

Thanks very much for any help with this! I am struggling with switching themes to one that really should have featured images for each post…

Thanks and nevermind! I figured it out – just made a dummy private page with an uploaded photo that I then also added to a published post.

When I permanently deleted the dummy page the photo remained in the media library, now marked “unattached” which is what I had hoped. And did not disappear from the other post I had added it to.

Should have thought of doing this before bothering the forum volunteers, but maybe it’ll be helpful to someone else…

That took initiative and my hat’s off to you for giving it a go and finding your own answer. That’s also for sharing your results. Best wishes with your blog. This post may also be of help to others http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/09/20/omg-my-images-are-gone/
