When I post a blog to facebook the wrong blog photo appears in the thumbnail..

  I often post blogs where photo and text are linked so this really spoils the effect and doesn’t help lead people to read the blog. It used to automatically post the right photo. Is there anything that I can do?

  Can you provide me with a post where that has happened? Are these images that you are wanting to display on your Facebook post set as featured images in your WordPress.com post?

  Thank you. What seems to be happening is that a generic photo (it lets me choose one of four) is now automatically being given to me when I copy the link to an individual post whereas it used to automatically use the photo which is actually in the post as the facebook thumbnail.

  Ah, gotcha. Can you provide me with a post as an example? I think I know what is going on but I wanted to take a look at the post to verify.

  Hi there,

  I see that your particular theme does not have a featured image option which may contribute to the issue.

  Once a post or page has been shared on Facebook, the images have been stored in a cache on their server for future shares. Facebook doesn’t look at the page again for new images until their cache expires. This time period is unpredictable, but can be days or weeks. You can force Facebook to update its cache for your post/page by entering the link to the specific blog post you’re sharing into their Debug tool on this page:

  http://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug

  After pasting your link into the blank on that page, click the “Debug” button. Then try sharing your post/page on Facebook again.
