when i publish, the image that gets displayed with my post on the reader….
-
when i publish a post, the image that gets displayed with my post on the reader page is not showing correctly, for example, when my top image is of square of landscape aspect ratio, it will correctly use the maximum amount of pixels horizontally allowed by the reader’s post column to display the image, but if the image is of portrait aspect ratio, the image is displayed very small, and definitely not taking advantage of all the screen space it should. Ive seen this randomly work sometimes though, but most of the time, it doesnt and I can’t figure out why. I take most of my photos in portrait aspect ratio.
Im not using featured image, just letting wordpress grab the first image on my post and use that on the reader page.
any help would be for lack of a better word, awesome :) thanks!!!!!

actually, im seeing posts go on the reader page with portrait images displaying small as well. not sure why that is.

after looking a bit more into it, there has to be some sort of aspect ratio restrictions on vertical images, it would be awesome to find out what that is so I can take full advantage of screen space on the reader page

Hi there,
The Reader will feature an image full-width if it’s at least 594 pixels wide and has an aspect ratio of at least 0.8 (width/height). Otherwise, the image will be displayed in a thumbnail size.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions. :)

I think it will. But just to be sure. An image of say… 598w by 747h would comply with this restriction then? also, as long as the aspect ratio is 0.8, the image, no matter the size, should display correctly and not as a thumbnail, right?
it’s too bad though, the aspect ratio requirement is almost square which doesn’t really help show off some of the photos users are posting :) maybe this could be tweaked? just saying….

Yes, an image of that size would be featured above your post in the Reader.

The aspect ratio only needs to be at least 0.8, so it doesn’t have to be that exact ratio — that’s just a minimum. Likewise, the width needs to be 594 pixels minimum. As long as those two minimums are met, the image will be featured in a large size in the Reader.
