When I select free, it moves me to premium

  • Unknown's avatar

I am trying to test out wordpress.
    I have my own domain.

I tell it my domain, it still tries to give me ‘***.blog’ & acts like it is doing me a favor and wants to charge ($96 for premium) me for a year after I select the free plan.

It is not letting me select a free plan and it moves me to premium.

I’ve had a WP account for a while but I don’t have any sites with it.

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

  • Hi!

I suspect the issue is that you are attempting to use your existing domain with the new WordPress.com site? If that is the case, it will not allow you to choose the “free” site plan. Using a custom domain (yourgroovysite.com instead of yourgroovysite.wordpress.com) requires one of our paid plans. But any of the paid plans will do it. Might I suggest giving the Personal plan a try?

There are both monthly and yearly payment options for our hosting plans. So the monthly would be an inexpensive way to test WordPress.com out. We also have a 14 day refund policy for any non domain purchases (domain registration has a 48 hour refund window).

I’ve also added a 10% off coupon to your shopping cart so that should drop the final checkout price a bit as well.

Let us know if this all makes sense and or if you have other questions!
