Not unless you want it to. An upgraded plan gives you the opportunity to use a custom domain. However the original site ending in .wordpress.com will still exist. Anyone typing in that address would be seamlessly transferred to your new domain. If sometime in the future you didn’t renew your upgrade the free address would still be available to you.
