When importing from self-hosted to WordPress.com, should stats come, too?

  • Unknown's avatar

Prior to yesterday, my website vancouverastrology.com was hosted elsewhere. I wanted to bring it to WordPress.com, so I followed the required steps (which were very well explained, by the way). I first step up a new W-P site and called it tm2videos.wordpress.com. Next I paid for the Premium upgrade. I then successfully imported my content to the new site. I pointed the DNS to ns1.wordpress.com, ns2…, ns3… I then selected vancouverastrology.com to be the primary domain. In an hour or so, everything seemed to be working fine… except…
Under “Manage My Blogs” I seem to have two separate blogs. The stats for vancouverastrology.com seem to have stopped as of the transfer, and the stats seem to be active, starting fresh from yesterday. Is there any way to merge the two accounts so that my domain’s history remains intact? I had been using Jetpack when my website was self-hosted, so I hope that might help.
I have another domain that I’d like to bring to WordPress, but I don’t think I will if the stats can’t come along with it! Is there anything I/we/you can do?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Sorry, it should read:
The stats for vancouverastrology.com seemed to have stopped as of the transfer, and the stats ** for tm2videos.wordpress.com** seem to be active, starting fresh from yesterday.

The stats have been moved as requested. Please let us know if you need any further assistance!

Thanks! I’m relieved to know that can be possible, and I appreciate your prompt help. I do have some other questions.

    1. The complete stats history now seems to be working for tm2videos.wordpress.com but is there any way to have it working for vancouverastrology.com?

    2. Really, I have no intension of ever using the “tm2videos” account name, so is that something I should delete? i.e. Could I make vancouverastrology.com the only domain here, or because that domain is registered elsewhere, is it a requirement for me to keep tm2videos as a “ghost-host” account?

    3. Regarding “Share This”: When my account was self-hosted, I had a number of tallies accumulated for Facebook, Twitter, etc. When I moved my blog to WordPress.com, those seem to have reset to 0. Is there any way of getting those numbers back?

Do you want me to move all stats from tm2videos to vancouverastrology.com ?

After we’ve moved the stats (if that’s what you want) you are free to remove your tm2videos site. If you want to permanently delete your site, follow the guide below: http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/delete-site/

Please read the warnings and advice before deleting a site, as we can’t revert a site deletion for any reason.

If you want to hide your site instead, you can use the following guide to make your site private so only you and other members of the site can view it when logged in:

Your followers are attached to your Facebook and Twitter account. If you set up Publicize this number will be listed on your site stats page and Blog Follow widget.

    Hi again, Kardotim,

Thank you again for your quick and clear responses to my concerns.

    1. Yes, please go ahead and move the stats to vancouverastrology.com.

    2. Just double-checking… by deleting tm2videos.wordpress.com, that will in no way affect the content of vancouverastrology.com, even though these are two domains sharing the same account? I am so afraid that all the content may disappear from both because I initially imported it into tm2videos.wordpress.com.

    3. When vancouverastrology.com was self-hosted, I did not activate the Publicize feature of Jetpack, but I did activate Sharing. With Sharing, at the bottom each blog post, I could see how many people found it through Facebook, Twitter, etc. Those are the numbers I’m wanting to see again. By activating Publicize, will that somehow make those Sharing numbers come back?

That’s correct, it won’t harm the vancouverastrology.com site.

Correct, you will see those numbers in your site stats and they are counted as followers when you have the Follow Blog Widget enabled.

    1. Thanks for moving the stats to vancouverastrology.com.

    2. Before I delete tm2videos.wordpress.com, will the Premium upgrade that I bought for it automatically be registered to vancouverastrology.com? I can’t seem to do it myself — I only get options to transfer it to other blogs. Sorry, but I am very nervous to confirm the delete request. It does say that all files will be lost and not retrievable. I feel like I am about to attempt blog suicide here! I downloaded the site’s XML file just in case something goes wrong. But please do confirm that things will be okay with the Premium upgrade transfer.

    3. I have activated Publicize and the Follow Blog Widget as you suggested. I was delighted to see that I already have 109 followers when I thought I had about 5 or so. However, the previous share numbers still don’t show at the bottom of posts when I set the button style to “Official” mode. It seems they did, in fact, get reset to 0 when I made the move to WordPress.com.

    Hello again, Kardotim,

Thanks for your help to date. I have changed my mind on this migration to WordPress.com and have decided to return to self-hosting. Your support has been great, and I am sorry to have taken up your time.

No worries. If you want to cancel and refund your upgrade you can do that at https://tm2videos.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades
