When importing XML from blogger – it does an awful job

When, trying to import the configuration file from blogger It does not import the post correctly, we miss images and post that should be pages are imported as pages

I do not want blank posts with missing images. This is not the case in blogger.

  • Hi there,

I do not see any sites under your WordPress.com account when I check on our end. You can confirm by visiting this page: https://wordpress.com/sites.

Is it possible you created your site under a different login instead? What is the URL of the site you are needing help with?

Happy to check in our system so we can take a closer look.

  • Hello there,

Many thanks for reaching out I’ve restored that site for you.

Let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

Thank you for the restore however, the next frustrating problem is when I import data from blogger, it does not differentiate between a post and a page

this means I have many post entries that actually should be pages

while I’m away, you can get a plug-in that can convert these. I’m not interested in paying your business level pricing to enable a plug-in, I think your business pricing is far too expensive for what is essentially a blog

how can I convert a post into a page without using a plug-in?

I definitely prefer the feature rich functionality of WordPress, but what I don’t like is everything seems to be behind a paywall

using custom domains is free with blogger but I have to pay WordPress close to 40 pounds a year for this feature

if I’m going to move to WordPress, I do not expect to have to pay for what I class as basic functionality

  • Hey there,

    Happy to help!

how can I convert a post into a page without using a plug-in?

I’d recommend first importing the file onto a local copy of WordPress, which would be offline and converting them locally using a plugin > exporting that new revised content and then attempting to import them onto the live site.

Many thanks for that feedback, it’s always appreciated. We try to structure our plans to serve what you need, so for example, the higher the plan, the more storage you would be afforded and the more customisation you would require and subsequently have.

Out of curiosity, other than a custom domain, what other things are you looking to change or do with the site? I think we can perhaps look for you to get the most out of whichever plan you need.

Many thanks and I hope this is useful!

how would that change the results ???

If you first import into a local install of WordPress, you can use a plugin to convert the necessary posts to pages using a plugin. Once that is done, the export from that local install of WordPress would include those converted pages, so what would show up in the site here after that import would include your posts, and the posts you converted into pages.
