When is the best time to use pages?
-
I’m new to the whole blogging concept and need a little guidance.
When is it best to use pages?
Are pages designed for publishing larger post, so a short descriptive post with links to the larger pages can be placed within the main blogging stream?I don’t have a problem linking to pages. I just need to know, when are the best times to use pages. I have already discovered that pages are not sorted by categories, so there would still need to be a linking short post for a desciption to any pages.
Am I on the right track with this assessment?

First off, read this support document on the differences between pages and posts.
Posts can be of any length and you can split them using the read more tag, or even paginate them if they are long, so length really isn’t a consideration. Post will typically rank higher in search engines than posts will since you can categorize and tag theme where you cannot with pages.
Also, the more pages you get, the more difficult the navigation since they cannot be categorized. Categories allow for much better and more intuitive navigation.

Ahhhh, I didn’t know about the more and paginate tags. That explains allot, thanks :)
So pages would basically, only be used for article or postings that you wouldn’t want shown on the main page or categorized.

No, it’s more than that. As it says on the Pages support doc, an About page is the classic example for a Page. It’s static information that’s outside the timeline of Posts.

And if you are new to the whole blogging thing, you might want to read this tutorial as well, if you haven’t yet.
