When Someone clicks on Follow your blog, what page to they eventually end up at?

  • Unknown's avatar

My friend tried to follow my blog, got the subscribe email, clicked on the link and got to what looked like an internal WordPress page, asking him to login to his wordpress account. The page was called subscription management. He was very confused by the content. Still, I got an email saying that he was following my blog. Is he? What’s up with that strange page?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there! I suspect your friend was sent to this page:
    https://subscribe.wordpress.com/

He can use that page to link to his Reader, or he can log in and go straight to wordpress.com. If he clicks the Blogs I Follow link, he’ll be able to confirm that he’s subscribed to your site, and he can choose how is reads your new posts.

He might also find the information in the link below helpful:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/following/

If you’d like me to look further into his subscription to your site, I’ll need his WordPress.com user name (not his email address), and I can delve a bit deeper.

    Let me know. Thanks!

Forget my friend, I don’t want to bug him for more details, I got my son to sign up when my friend complained. My son got this page in response and I don’t see what you describe above on it I marked and copied it, pasting it below. If this is the right page to get, I’ll bug my friend one more time and tell him to try again until he gets these words, as below.

    Howdy.

You recently signed up to follow this blog’s posts. This means once you confirm below, you will receive each new post by email.

To activate, click Confirm Follow. If you believe this is an error, ignore this message and nothing more will happen.

    Hi there!

Yes. That is the automated confirmation email. That gets sent to people who subscribe via email to your site.

But there are different ways that folks can subscribe. If they follow you by email, they’ll get that note. If they are logged in as WordPress.com users, they can click on the Follow button that appears at the top of your site, and that will sign them up to follow your site on their Reader. They won’t get an email in this case.

If they aren’t logged into WordPress.com, or aren’t a user, they’re given another option to subscribe in the lower right hand side of your website.

Basically, there are many ways to subscribe. Depending on the way your friend did it, he may or may not get the same email that your son did. If your friend doesn’t receive notification of your next post, I’m happy to troubleshoot the problem further.

I realize this is neither here nor there, but if you’d like to personalize your confirmation email (the one your son received), you can do so here:
    https://thewhitelilyblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php
You can scroll to the bottom of the page and adjust “Blog follow email text.” Just make sure to save your changes.

    Thanks much.

Thanks, Robyn! You’re so great! I’ll ask the friend (not the son) if he got notified next post.

I was done for work today, and I got online because I had an epiphany! I think your friend DID get that confirmation email, and clicked the Manage Subscriptions button. That would take him to that Subscription Management page.

Looking forward to hearing if he gets that post notification from you!

    (And you’re very welcome!)
