When to transfer my domain?

    I am moving my online store from Shopify to WooCommerce. My domain is currently hosted on GoDaddy. When should I transfer my domain? Will it turn off my current store? I want to work on this new one in the background, while the old one is still running.

    Hi there!

    You can go ahead and build your site using a free WordPress.com domain name, and then when you’re finished, transfer your domain here.

    Note that domain transfers can take 24–72 hours to propagate – this is the timeframe required for DNS servers worldwide to update their records for a given domain name. Some downtime should be expected any time you make changes to your domain name.

    I’m just following up on the modlook tag @nikolnieto added to this thread.

    I am moving my online store from Shopify to WooCommerce.

    Do you want to upgrade to the Business plan on WordPress.com and install WooCommerce? Or do you plan to create a WordPress.org site, install WooCommerce and host it elsewhere (away from WordPress.com)?
