When to Upgrade?

I’m using a free WP.com plan at the moment. I don’t want to pay for anything unless I’m sure I can cover costs. Am I wasting my time trying to build SEO on the free plan? Will I lose those later?

I usually get between 50 to 150 page views a day. My site is just informational, it doesn’t sell anything. When should I make the decision to upgrade to premium?

    Hi there,

Am I wasting my time trying to build SEO on the free plan?

Though the WordPress.com Business Plan comes with additional tools, no, all plans on WordPress.com are great for building your SEO. There’s some tips on that all here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/seo/

The most common way of covering plan costs is through the WordAds scheme: https://wordads.co

I’ll be honest, you’ll generally need thousands and thousands of views each month to make any meaningful revenue. With the Personal Plan, you need to meet a minimum traffic requirement, and though the Premium Plan will get you automatically accepted, I don’t think it’s likely that view count will cover the cost of the plan.

My site is just informational, it doesn’t sell anything. When should I make the decision to upgrade to premium?

If your site is more informational and doesn’t require any further functuality, Premium might not be for you. Personally, I’d recommend Personal as that comes with a custom domain, which may be what you’re looking for.
