It looks like you initially registered the domain gotyourbackva.com on 1/13/15. Then, you cancelled that domain alongside a Premium bundle trial on 1/19/15. When a domain is cancelled, it is sent back to the registrar and does not become immediately available. You recently purchased a mapping upgrade, which isn’t quite the same as a registration + mapping upgrade. I’ve removed the mapping upgrade from your site to reduce confusion.
There are two options moving forward:
- I can reach out to the registrar in an attempt to restore the domain to your account. If we go that route and I’m successfully, I will send over a manual payment request for $26 for the domain
- We can wait for the domain to become available again for registration normally. However, this can take upwards of 80-90 days or even more. We have no control over how long this process takes.

Well I paid $13 for mapping and if it was removed then shouldn’t I receive a credit or discount for the $26?
Also, I signed up for the $99 website package- it gave me a 2 week free trial and didn’t charge my card. I didn’t even have the option until today when my website suddenly wasn’t live. Can you explain this?

I only see the charge for the Premium bundle and the Bon Vivant theme. It looks like the domain mapping upgrade for gotyourbackva.com was setup during a Premium bundle trial, which would not have charged you right away.

Here’s a timeline to recap:
1/13/15 – Start Business bundle trial. Register domain gotyourbackva.com as part of trial.
1/19/15 – Cancel Business bundle trial and domain
1/19/15 – Start Premium bundle trial and map domain gotyourbackva.com
2/9/15 – Premium bundle removed from account
I’m not entirely sure why the Premium bundle didn’t automatically charge your card on 2/9/15 before being removed from your account. The domain issue, however, is a result of the cancellation on 1/19/15. When you cancelled the domain on that date, it was sent back to the registrar, who will decide when to release it again.
I’m really sorry for the confusion here. It looks like you recently setup gotyourbackva.org. Is that domain working correctly now on your side?

The thing is – I don’t really care what happened or what happens- I desperately need my website up and running because I cannot recieve emails until then. I run a business through this website- I have no issue paying. I am sure I paid $13 for the domain mapping. I just paid it again, it said gotyourbackva.com was available… lets hope this works.

Hi,
The domain gotyourbackva.com is available to map to your WordPress.com site. Mapping only works if you own the domain registration elsewhere. In this case, the domain registration is not available since the domain was cancelled (as explained here). I have refunded the $13 charge as a result.
The domain mapping will not work unless I contact the registrar and ask to have the domain returned back to us. There are two options here:
1. You can continue to use gotyourbackva.org
2. If you would like, I can try to restore gotyourbackva.com to your account.
If you would like to go with option #2, please note that the domain has entered a redemption period. During this period, the registrar charges us a fee of $80 to restore the domain to your account. So, the total cost for the domain would be $98.

Your website is currently up and running at the domain gotyourbackva.org. If you would like that domain to be shown to visitors, you will want to change the primary domain on your account here:

I’m not sure what to do- as of now my business is on hold due to things I cannot understand and seem to be unable to fix.
I was receiving emails through the gotyourbackva.com domain- now all my customers are receiving a DNS error and their mail gets returned to them. This is unacceptable and is ruining my reputation. I think $98 is steep considering I didn’t pay anything for the domain in January and it wasn’t my fault it expired. I had the money to pay for it and I tried- there literally was no place to put payment information in.
I’m not trying to negotiate price- this is just awfully complicated and it’s putting a massive strain on my business. There has to be an easier way to fix this. I have a name established- it would mess with my credibility to change it and my emails.
Can I just go through a third party and buy the domain then map it? I don’t understand why this happened or how. I guess if there is no other option than to change the .com to .org then I’ll do it but I really don’t want to.

I’m really sorry for the confusion and hassle here. Let me go through this one last time, specifically addressing the issue with gotyourbackva.com.
On 1/13/15, you registered a WordPress.com Business bundle and registered the domain gotyourbackva.com. On 1/19/15, you switched out that Business bundle for the Premium bundle and cancelled the domain gotyourbackva.com. From 1/13/15 to 1/19/15, the domain continued to work. However, since that time, it has stopped.
When a domain is cancelled, it is sent back to the registrar. At that point, you no longer own the domain, and the domain isn’t registered at WordPress.com. It enters this limbo period. For a short time, it’s possible for us to reach out and restore the domain to your account by contacting the registrar.
After that period, the registrar puts it into a holding process known as “redemption.” That’s where we are now, unfortunately. During that time, the registrar charges us a fee of $80 to get the domain back. This is a fee that we’re charged, not one that we’re creating.
When a domain is in redemption, it can either A) be sold to someone else if they’ve placed a backorder on it or B) released back for regular registration after a certain amount of time (normally a month or more).
If you would definitely like to use gotyourbackva.com, the $98 payment is the way to go. Alternatively, if you’re alright with potentially losing it, we can wait the 4-6 weeks until it’s released again for registration normally.
If you opt to recover gotyourbackva.com, you can likely keep your email setup as is while I retrieve the domain. If not, I would recommend switching your email address to gotyourbackva.org. That process would need to be done at Zoho.
