When will the New Improved post editor get link searching?

  • Unknown's avatar

The “old” editor supported adding links by searching for posts that matched a text field, so I didn’t have to manually find the post, then copy-and-paste its URL into the link.

The “new” editor *still* does not have that feature.

Months ago, you folks said that feature would be added soon.

My posts have extensive cross-linking, so the “improved” editor really isn’t a step forward.

When will the “improved” editor have the same search-for-posts ability as the “old” editor?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Ed,

The new post editor already has a search feature when adding links. To make it work, you’ll need to save your post as a draft first. Then, when you’re adding a new link, you can click on “Or link to existing content” in the insert/edit link box: https://cloudup.com/c7N7C5ALJm2

That will give you a list of your blog’s recent posts, which you can search to find the exact post you’re looking for. If you have any trouble with that, please let me know!

Ah! I see WP hasn’t yet figured out how to make dialog boxes display correctly under any browser settings other than the ones your developer(s) use.

In Chromium, that checkbox remains hidden, even with fonts set to Normal and the Zoom at 100%. As I’d reported before, having a dialog box that doesn’t respond to the browser settings and gives nary a hint of its hidden powers presents a serious usability and accessibility problem.

Setting Zoom to 150% reveals it, but that’s the wrong setting for other web pages.

Without knowing it’s there, I couldn’t possibly find it.

The old dialog box let me tab to its hidden fields, but the new one doesn’t tab beyond its visible fields. Can you at least fix that, so that I can tab to the invisible checkbox?

Better: make the dialog box resizeable *and* have it remember that size and display the “link to existing content” checkbox between appearances.

Better still: make the themes (or whatever) respect the user’s preferences, so that pages / dialogs display correctly without manual intervention. That should include making the columns resize proportionally to the full browser width, rather than packing them into the middle of a bunch of whitespace, then truncating all the text in the right column.

None of those are new requests.

    Thanks…

    Hi Ed,

Thank you for providing that detailed feedback. I’m passing it along to our developers so they can investigate why the dialog box is behaving that way in Chromium, and to consider the requests you made to improve it.
