When you buy your domain from wordpress, can you add plugins?

Currently I have not paid for anything an so my URL is: “javierelkin.wordpress.com”. If I purchase the 18$ a year and turn it into “javierelkin.com” will I be able to add plugins? My question is basically, how do I get access to the plugins, do I have to host my site externally like through bluehost with wordpress installed (which I know works from other blogs) or can I get access to the plugins by paying the 18$?

In short: what does the 18$ get you? Only a name change or more? Cheers!

Domain mapping does not allow you to add plugins. You are still being hosted for free on WordPress.com and all the same rules/restrictions apply.

If you want plugins, then you’ll have to find a host, pay for hosting, and take care of maintaining your site with WordPress.ORG (or some other software).
