When your free 3 gigs are used up
-
Then what? Does wordpress offer help, if so for how much? I need to know what to expect over the long haul in terms of costs (hidden or otherwise)? Any help appreciated.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you use up the 3GB of space, then you cannot upload anything else until you either delete some of the stuff or buy one of the space upgrades.

There are no “hidden costs” at wordpress.com.

Also as you forgot to post the link to the blog in question we cannot verify whether or not you are referring to a free hosted wordpress.COM blog or a wordpress.ORG install. The links posted above apply only to free hosted wordpress.COM blogs.See the differences here > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

As timethief pointed out (and as mentioned in the Sticky 8 Things to Know Before Posting), when you ask a question here we need a link to your blog.
The free 3GB of space refer to images or other files you upload, not to text; they are enough for several thousand of images. If your blog is http://unanimousdissent.wordpress.com/ , you’ve published three posts in 2007 and one in 2009, with a total of nine images. Do you think that at this rate you run the risk of using up your 3GB before the end of time?

“You cannot upload audio files or music without the space upgrade.” That’s from a page to which TSP linked. I quote it since it’s hard to see how you’re going to need anything like 3gig without audio or music.

Thanks for the replies.. i’m reading all the helpful links provided now. I am just helping a friend decide where to begin blogging and trying to know what to expect in terms of costs if she selects wordpress.
I only used that UD blog to test drive WP backstage years ago… but you never know..)
I like WP from what I know, but that experience is only helping others run the posting and editing and moderation side of blog life, not the ownership, server or admin sides.

As I already said, 3GB is enough for several thousands of photos (provided you don’t make the mistake of uploading the original files you get from a digital camera). Text is unlimited. Audio and video don’t have to be uploaded to the blog.

Images can also be embedded in a post or page via the link embed option… Which will also help save space within your blogs media storage…
