When YouTube videos can't be played in our blogs
-
This is a very interesting conversation, and thanks to you all! The things one can learn first thing in the morning! At the moment I embed the videos by copying the link I find in the browser and pasting it into the insert video tool (sorry people, my technical vocabulary is far from perfect!). I tried with the embedding code, below the viedo itself, to see if that would solve the problem, but that way the video doesn’t even get embedded at all. If i understand your suggestion: screen shot, save image as xyz, insert image and link image to YouTube url. OK, quite a bit of work, but I’ll definitely try. I’ll also try to see if I can simply take the screen shot and paste directly into post, without saving the image. All gets more complicated if you think that I have owned a mac for less than 1 month and I’m still learning my way around things! :-) Thank you all so much again and have a lovely sunday – I’ll let you know how things work out and will change the status to sloved only than. ciao

Funny, I’m trying the screen shot, it gets saved on desktop, I can drag and drop it into post, center, link to urls, etc. I write a few words, save it all and… the post goes blank! The text doesn’t even get saved… If I don’t save, in the preview I just see the text. – ??? – Maybe this is a different tecnical problem, some itch – I’ll try again later.
-
You cannot drag and drop. You have to upload it using the image uploader function in the editor and then insert the image into the post.

My two cents: right now it would appear that YouTube is allowing embeds on non-WP.com hosted WordPress, which vastly outnumbers WP.com blogs, does it not? So if they’re going to be that free with their copyright, it leads me to assume this disconnect is related to them wanting to favour Blogspot over WordPress.com.

The specific system runs on a blacklist and whitelist.
The blacklist is domain-based, so it’s much easier to blacklist [blog].wordpress.com than it is every domain registered for every site, since thousands are registered every day.
Are you absolutely sure that [blog].blogspot.com isn’t blacklisted? It was the last time I checked.

I’m not. I don’t remember my Blogspot blog anymore, actually.
Thanks to the changes they’ve made today, workarounds are necessary to put ANY YouTube video into WordPress.com.

Ah, needed that second cuppa this morning. Before it will work you have to enable it on your blog under Dashboard>Settings>Media>Auto-Embeds
-
Please forgive an ignorant (but eager to learn :-): what are you talking about now?? Cheers!

If you have enabled Auto-embeds on your blog, through the Dashboard as I mentioned above, you can simply copy the address of the youtube video you want to display in your WordPress.com blog (not the embed code), and paste it into the Editor on a line by itself. Make sure the address is not highlighted like a link. If it is, with your cursor on the link, unlink it. Save your draft, preview. You should be able to see the video.
