Where are my followers?

Hello,
When I visit my blog, it tells me that I’m following the blog along with 921 other people. But when I go to my stats page, it says I have 43 WordPress.com followers and 5 email followers . . . so where is everyone else?? How did they subscribe if not through WordPress or email?Thanks!
