Where did my followers go?

Why did my followers drop from almost 900 to 211 overnight? Please restore the old number (approx. 880).

It looks like you lost your Facbook and Twitter follower counts.

Oh, sorry, I see what you mean.
We are no longer including the Facebook and Twitter follower totals in the Follow Blog sidebar widget, hence the illusion of a drop in followers.

So, now that I’ve been telling people I have 900 followers, when I teach my social networking / blogging class next month, I’ll just tell them it wasn’t true? And that I really only have 200?

It’s true. You actually have that many followers when you add your WordPress.com Reader followers and email followers with your Facebook and Twitter followers (since you have Publicize enabled).

However, I did notice that the numbers are now missing for you, so you may need to try reconnecting with Facebook and Twitter following these guides again:

Thanks. I also unchecked the box so now there is no number (lurkers can check me on Alexa.com if they want to see how I’m doing, right?) and made a change so now it says, “Join billions of happy readers and click to receive…”.
