Where did the insert gallery and slideshow buttons go?
-
The slideshow feature does not work like it used to. It used to be so simple to update new photos, edit captions and order, and then upload it easily. Now I cannot get the new order to save. It is in the correct order in the edit area, but then when it’s uploaded, it’s wrong again. And I had to google “how to put in slideshow wordpress” to even figure out how to put a slideshow in. This seems very not user friendly. What is the purpose of this new edit? Makes it impossible to use.

We do intend to bring back the “Insert slideshow” button and its associated features in a future release.
I know this is an inconvenience for some, and we sincerely apologize.
If you require finer control over the slideshow order beyond what’s currently possible using one of the techniques I described here, you might want to look at using a gallery as an alternative in the meantime.

I agree; this entire change was a huge mistake and not user-friendly at all! I don’t need to see my entire gallery; they’re images I’ve already posted and certainly don’t intend to post again. Bring back the slide show please; it’s a nice change vs. a long line-up of images. And the gallery makes the images too small – I don’t want that either (or, keep it as a choice. Bad move, WordPress. Other than this faux pas, it’s been a great tool so far.

Until the button is restored, you can still add a slideshow using the shortcode – the instructions are here:

And the gallery makes the images too small
If you find them too small, you can set the size of gallery thumbnail images under Settings > Media, next to “Thumbnail size”. If you need any help with this or it isn’t working as it should, please let me know.
