Where do I edit/create my CSS

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok… this will probably sound super stupid but I’m not finding a way of solving it for several days now…
    The thing is:
I bought a wordpress theme (Atlas) and I want to edit things like my menu font color etc… things that wordpress don’t let me in the “Customize” section. So I started googling about this. I find a lot of references to CSS, and I do know what that is, once I remember using them 10 years ago in my HTML classes. I also find a lot of references to “setup the theme” and things like this. What happens is… no matter where I go on wordpress, I can’t find the CSS “files”/section. I also don’t understand where I can check this “theme setup”. Before buying a theme I always thought I would get an app and/or some sort of document to administrate all these things.

I know this is a bit stupid, and probably super easy to “fix”, but wordpress help pages send me to other semi-vague help pages, and the results I find on google seem to take in account that I know where this CSS “file”/section is…

    Thanks in advance

    Hi there,

  • Hi @davidegravato,

I also don’t understand where I can check this “theme setup”.

I think it is simply referring to the features you can customize through the Customizer.

no matter where I go on wordpress, I can’t find the CSS “files”/section.

It is to my knowledge that on WordPress.com, a person does not have access to external theme files. However, you can edit the theme’s CSS.

In your Customizer, you will find a CSS tab (or section if you will), to make any appearance changes. Please note, you do need to have a WordPress.com Premium or Business Plan to access this feature.
    Pricing Plans:

Before buying a theme I always thought I would get an app and/or some sort of document to administrate all these things.

Activating and purchasing a Premium theme on WordPress.com is essentially the same process as doing so for a free theme. In short, it should be more or less a “one-click” process.

    Learn more about that here:

Also, if you have any other questions about the Atlas theme itself, there is a support forum for that too:

It looks like you purchased a Personal plan, and then purchased the Atlas theme separately.

As Paulo mentioned, the ability to add custom CSS is something that requires a Premium or Business plan.

The Premium plan includes all premium themes, and is a yearly subscription. If you’re interested in switching over to a Premium plan instead of your current Personal plan, let me know and we can look at how to make that happen.

Each theme comes with a setup guide. Here’s the one for Atlas:
