Where do I find the EPP code for my domain?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I want to move my website to wordpress.org and as I understand it I must first move my domain to another host than wordpress.com. I tried to find the answer to this and thought I did when I ended up at Store – My domains, but I still can’t find the EPP code. Where is it?

    Thank you,

    Best,
    Sara

    Hi Sara,

You can actually keep your domain registered through us and just update your nameservers to host elsewhere. You can point the domain you registered at WordPress.com to another server (hosting service), with these steps:

    Change a Domain’s Name Servers

You’ll need to obtain the name server values from your current host. You should be able to find them on their support documentation, or contact them and ask for the information. (Name servers may be referred as “nameservers” or “NS records” instead.)

You can find the difference between domain registration and hosting here:

    All About Domains

However, if you want to transfer the domain registration elsewhere, you will need to go to your Store -> Domains page and follow the prompts you find there:

    1. Look for Domain Administration and change the dropdown menu to “Transfer to Another Registrar”
    2. It will state that you may not transfer a domain name for 60 days after its purchase. Click the button “Next Step”
    3. Enter a new password, putting it into both blanks (this is a new one you’re making up, so make sure to write it down)
    4. Write down your Customer Number which is displayed just below
    5. Click the “Save Password” button
    6. Click the link for “Manage Your Domains”
    7. Log in with your customer number and password that you wrote down in steps 3 & 4 above
    8. You will be prompted to create a PIN number
    9. You should now be logged in and see a list of your domains. Select your domain.
    10. Now, you will need to unlock your domain. Right under Domain Settings you will see ‘Lock’. Click on Manage right underneath ‘On’. Check ‘Off’ and click Save.
    11. Toward the bottom of the page you will see ‘Authorization Code’. Please click ‘Email my code’.
