where do I upload the images for my css
-
Hello,
Here is my question, I do not know if I am overlooking something but… I load my custom css code…where do I load all the button and background images for that code? And all the php files, where do those get uploaded?
Thank you,
lea

can’t use php files on wordpress.COM blogs. a link to your blog would help, you should also consider linking your name to your blog.

my blog is one of the wordpress templates, so that would not help with this question. http://leabarozzi.wordpress.com
OK, so if you upload your own css code in the edit css box…where do you upload the button and background image files for the css to use? I cannot find it anywhere.
Thank you

If you are not aware of it, CSS is theme specific which means you cannot use just any CSS with the themes here. You have to modify the CSS for the theme you are customizing. This would not apply if you’ve downloaded a CSS file specifically designed for the wordpress.COM version of Sandbox.
Themes downloaded off of the internet cannot be used at wordpress.COM. The themes here have to be modified from the original designs to work with the multi-user version of wordpress used at .COM, nor can the CSS files from themes downloaded off the internet – with the exception of the Sandbox CSS as I mentioned in the first paragraph – by used on the themes here.

Seriously? That sucks, lol.
I downloaded free wordpress themes off the internet, they said they were for wordpress, so I thought I could use them here *sigh*
So let me see if I have this right, if I want an original looking page, here at wordpress, I have to to edit the existing css here and doing so I cannot change any images, just maybe delete some content and change colors?
Thank you for your advice, Lea

Images you might be using with your blog would have to be uploaded into your media library and then the URL’s in the CSS adjusted appropriately.

I just do not completely understand, because I want my page to not look like a blog, but like a static page. And I have seen others like that on wordpress…..plus my web designer friends said they design css for wordpress pages….So how do they use ti?
Thanks again

actually you can edit images like the headers and buttons. If you design from scratch using the sandbox theme then you can do even more as far as changing layout. But, you right, you can’t download other themes, usually those themes that you find online are for those with self hosted blogs over at wordpress.ORG

“Images you might be using with your blog would have to be uploaded into your media library and then the URL’s in the CSS adjusted appropriately. “
Duh, of course thanks :)
-
You can change the images. You just cannot access the php files or use unedited CS files you have downloaded from the internet.

I know I sound like an idiot, and am sorry, I am a professional, just not in this field:)
So, self hosted….Do you mean if I buy a domain name through wordpress? Becasue that was my next step.
I want this to be a professional page that displays my portfolio, so I do not want it to look like a blog or hobby site or say anything in the url but my companys name. I was just seeing what I could get my site to look like through wordpress first before I paid for the hosting.
Thanks again everyone for answering my questions.

Self-hosted is where you hire a webhost, register a domain name, download and install the software from wordpress.ORG, and then set up things there. Hosting cost range from as little as $7 per month to as much as several hundred depending on the amount of bandwidth and storage space you would need.
-
Another thing, watch out for the bargain basement hosting deals. Many of them do not give you the full bandwidth they say they are, and can have considerable down time due to crashes etc.
There are some suggested hosting companies listed over at http://wordpress.ORG/hosting/ .

OK – I’m new here – just following the conversation and blowing my mind as I go! Am I to understand that I paid for the extra upgrade, but I cannot have my page look however I want it to?
I guess I didn’t fully understand that when I paid the extra!
I’ve already hosted my own domain through WordPress – I am currently a .org blog – does that change things?
I realize this will be a “high maintenance” question, but how do I edit the CSS then? I know how to make headers, buttons, images and so forth (on this end), but I don’t know CSS in order to upload these things – I too was planning to upload one of the “WordPress themes”.
Hhhmmm…..

As was said above, we are limited to the themes listed under appearance > themes. Quite a lot can be done with the CSS upgrade and when you use the Sandbox 1.0 theme, it is virtually wide open. You cannot change the underlying functionality of the theme though. That would require access to the underlying theme PHP script files and we do not have access to those. This is a multi-user version of wordpress which means we all share the same underlying files and any change to those files would effect everyone using that theme.
CSS isn’t rocket science, but it does take some experience to get the most out of it, especially if you are starting from scratch with the Sandbox theme.

So if I buy my own name through wordpress….I still have to use the word press themes…unless I selfhost and move to wordpress.org.
Is that right? Just trying to clarify.

I don’t think I want to change the php files. I jsut want it to look like a regular page and not a blog. It doesn’t have to do anything special
