Where has my stats page gone?
-
Where and why has my page gone:
https://maddogtvdinners.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=stats
and been replaced with the dreadful:
https://maddogtvdinners.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=stats#!/stats/day/15113106?page=stats
I don’t want to look at this dreadful page!
Please bring back the more friendly wp-admin/index.php?page=stats
…and please stop tinkering! You just keep making WP worse!
You make me want to leave WP!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
I just encountered the same awful, unwanted, forced change on my sites, AND I agree with and echo every word of your OP.
-
You’re welcome. : ) This just happened today, right? It’s a forced redirect from the WP-Admin stats to a version that WordPress.com prefers, as usual not caring what the individual user prefers. If browsers like Firefox and Google Chrome don’t block this redirect soon, then I will look for a script that blocks it. I suspect somebody is probably already busy on creating a script to block it.

I’m very disappointed by the fact that WP Staff no longer seem to want to respond to or help with Member’s issues. It wasn’t always like this!

@maddogtvdinners I was almost entirely away from the support forum from January 2023 until just over a week ago. So I’m out of touch regarding how things have changed or not wrt staff responses here. I can say, however, that within a few days of my adding the “modlook” tag to dozens of topics in the “Open topics with no replies” list, I’ve noticed that most of those that I’ve so marked have been conscientiously and skillfully responded to by staff. I found this a little surprising given that there are presently 9 pages of topics with the modlook tag added, and the oldest ones are dated five months ago.
You may add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff. I’d planned to wait a few days before doing so to give regular members the opportunity to respond first. I don’t believe that you and I are the only two members concerned about this change, but sometimes folks are concerned and don’t know what to do about it, e.g. where to go to complain or hear others complain about it. We can’t presume 1. that concerned members will even see this topic/thread, 2. that other topics on the issue haven’t been started (though I’ve been looking), or 3. that it might take another topic, with a more clearly stated title line, to get the ball rolling.
The number of new topics per day in this forum over the past few days is, I think, well below what it was a few years ago, and far below what it was in it’s heyday. At times during the years that I was most heavily involved in the forum, roughly 2012-2022 (with some breaks within that period) unless my memory deceives me, it was not unusual to see as many new threads during a busy hour as there now appear to be in an average day. The declining usage of the forum over the years might be a significant factor with regard to how swiftly topics are responded to in the year 2025.

@musicdoc1 Welcome back. There are 9 pages with the Modlook tag because a number of newer members of staff didn’t always (ever?) remove the tags once they had helped/failed to help the OPs. Now and again someone would clear those tags. Some threads with no apparent replies are often people with paid plans that received answers from staff via eMail but staff didn’t tidy up their initial posting. It looks like it is time someone did that again.
Staff attention to this forum has been very hit-and-miss since 2023. Most volunteers have gone too.
PS: Regarding the new look of the Stats page. Mine has been like that for many months. They are rolling it out to everybody and as we should know by now WordPress.com is always in a permanent state of flux trying things out for the wordpress software and resistance is futile.
-
@themagicrobot that’s a very sad state of affairs I will stop using WP if they don’t reinstate my Stats page. I’m sick of the tinkering and bad attitude.
-
@musicdoc1 thanks!
Perhaps people have stopped posting because they don’t get a response, or perhaps they are sick of WP dictating to them! I’m surprised, it was a busy forum 2 years ago (and before) – the Mods were active and responsive.
There’s another complaint about the missing Stats page here: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/classic-stats-format-changed-without-warning/

The lack of comment from WP and Staff is totally ignorant!
Please restore the wp-admin/index.php?page=stats page!
The “new” Stats page is useless! I have no idea which posts were looked at today and have no idea which links were clicked.
If it’s necessary to “improve” the Stats page then please make it better and not worse! Dreadful and useless would be a better description!

@themagicrobot Hi, there. I’m so glad that you’re still here in the forum working your special magic. Thanks for the clarification on the backlog of “modlook” tagged posts. I had noticed that the tag wasn’t being removed after response by some staff members, and I suspected that alternate means of communicating with staff might, as you suggest, be a significant factor.
Thanks also for the updates on recent staff and volunteer presence here, the info regarding rolling out of the new stats page, and your other helpful comments.

I have no idea which posts were looked at today and have no idea which links were clicked.
The default page of the new Jetpack stats shows a graph of the most recent 7 days, including today, and the stats below the graph are accumulated stats for the past 7 days. To show stats for a single day, click on the bar corresponding to the day in the graph. Today is the farthest right bar.
-
I don’t think the new stats are in any way inferior to the old ones. They may take a time to adjust to but anyone who has been around WordPress.com for a few years has to come to terms with regular updates. Personally I’d prefer the default to be “today” rather than “7 days” but I don’t think that these stats can be classed as “useless”??

I don’t think the new stats are in any way inferior to the old ones.
The one classic statistic that was far superior to the current stats (IMO) were the number of Shares, what post was shared and on which networks. The current version of sharing stats only gives you numbers of shares on which network, without that extra vital information.
I’d really like to see what post was shared returned. It is far more informative than only numbers and networks.
-
@themagicrobot I agree with justjennifer and the new stats are so ugly that I can’t bear to look at the page!
