Hi –
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

snow is a no show this year.

Hi there, Snow has been removed from WordPress.com and sadly cannot be used by sites unless on the Premium or Business Plan.
Let us know if you have any further questions or issues.

Hello WP
I’ve been looking forward to showing the kids the snow effect and was wondering why it had not appeared yet as it was set to come on every December.
So I’ve just searched your help section and I see you have removed it for sites not on Premium or Business Plan.
Needless to say we are very sad not to see the snow effect on the site now.
Please bring it back for all.
Thank you.Merry Christmas.

Thank you for the feedback, folks. It was removed mainly due to accessibility issues. We aren’t likely to return it to free sites this year, but if you have a premium or Business plan we can help you create a snow effect with CSS.
-
I’ve got a premium theme that I paid for. Also pay for no ads and domain registration. Do I not qualify for snow? I can’t find the setting for it anymore.

Hi there, @windwhistle
I checked your account and you currently have the Custom Design upgrade on piedtype.com, so you can add the snow effect via CSS on that site. Is that the site you want the effect on?

Thank you for your response. But I’ve no clue how to add snow with CSS. I was hoping there was just a box I could check, as in past years.
-
There’s not an easy, box option, this year. But you can follow the instructions here:
This file contains hidden or bidirectional Unicode text that may be interpreted or compiled differently than what appears below. To review, open the file in an editor that reveals hidden Unicode characters.
Learn more about bidirectional Unicode characters
Thanks for all of your feedback. There is a work around available with CSS. In order to use this option, you need to have the premium plan. I know that’s not possible for everyone. But, I am hopeful this could help some. ——————————— – Open media library – Upload “snowflake.png“ – Note the URL – Open customizer – Go to “Widgets” – Create a new “Custom HTML” widget in any widget area Add the following HTML: <div class="fallingSnow"> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> <span></span> </div> – Go to “Custom CSS” – Paste in the following, and replace snowflake.png with the full URL from your media library. .fallingSnow { position: absolute; left: 0px; right: 0px; top: 0px; height: 500px; text-align: center; } .fallingSnow span { display: inline-block; width: 20px; height: 21px; margin: -280px 60px 54px -34px; background:url("snowflake.png"); -webkit-animation: fallingSnow 12s infinite cubic-bezier(0.35,0.45,0.39,0.29); -moz-animation: fallingSnow 12s infinite cubic-bezier(0.35,0.45,0.39,0.29); } .fallingSnow span:nth-child(5n+5) { -webkit-animation-delay: 1.3s; -moz-animation-delay: 1.3s; } .fallingSnow span:nth-child(3n+2) { -webkit-animation-delay: 1.5s; -moz-animation-delay: 1.5s; } .fallingSnow span:nth-child(2n+5) { -webkit-animation-delay: 1.7s; -moz-animation-delay: 1.7s; } .fallingSnow span:nth-child(3n+10) { -webkit-animation-delay: 2.7s; -moz-animation-delay: 2.7s; } .fallingSnow span:nth-child(7n+2) { -webkit-animation-delay: 3.5s; -moz-animation-delay: 3.5s; } .fallingSnow span:nth-child(4n+5) { -webkit-animation-delay: 5.5s; -moz-animation-delay: 5.5s; } .fallingSnow span:nth-child(3n+7) { -webkit-animation-delay: 8s; -moz-animation-delay: 8s; } @-webkit-keyframes fallingSnow { 0% { opacity: 1; -webkit-transform: translate(0, 0px) rotateZ(0deg); } 75% { opacity: 1; -webkit-transform: translate(100px, 600px) rotateZ(270deg); } 100% { opacity: 0; -webkit-transform: translate(150px, 800px) rotateZ(360deg); } } @-moz-keyframes fallingSnow { 0% { opacity: 1; -webkit-transform: translate(0, 0px) rotateZ(0deg); } 75% { opacity: 1; -webkit-transform: translate(100px, 600px) rotateZ(270deg); } 100% { opacity: 0; -webkit-transform: translate(150px, 800px) rotateZ(360deg); } } Don't forget to SAVE your changes :) -
What is CSS? I looked in a couple places (I have premium site) and I don’t see an easy way to turn on the snow?!
Any help you can give me would be appreciated.
THanks!

Where on the site do I put the code for making it snow?
Sorry – this is not my background.

@ lizkarkoski Thanks for the info but that looks far more complicated than anything I want to attempt, especially with December already half gone.
-
@keleny1 if you your plan supports CSS you can add it under My Site > Customize > CSS.
@windwhistle if you have CSS on your site and you want to upload the snowflake image, or your own snowflake image, then send us a link to it, we can help you customize the code. From there it’s just a matter of copying and pasting. -
-
It looks complicated, but it really isn’t. It’s a bunch of HTML code you copy-paste into an HTML widget anywhere on your site, and a bunch of CSS you copy-paste into the Customizer.
Then you download the image file, upload it to your media library, and paste the link for the image in your media library into the correct line in the custom CSS, and that’s it.
Your site is on the Premium Plan, so you should be able to do this. Please follow those instructions. If you need any more help with this, you can start a live chat with us at https://wordpress.com/help/contact

Hum…. I’m not sure I’m up for this but thanks for the info. If I get some free time, I might try it.
Have a good holiday!

Seems prospects are bleak for WordPress if they even have to economize on the snow flakes…
