Where have category slug edit option gone to?
-
I’m designing multilinual blog, and I want to make categories’ names to differ from their url, for example ‘News’ with ‘news-en’ and ‘Noticias’ with ‘news-es’, and ‘Nieuws’ with ‘news-nl’.
However I can’t find slug option nor in Category Edit page niether in Quick Edit page. Did custom slug optoin become a premium option? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Interesting, I hadn’t noticed that before. I checked on my own site and indeed there is no way to set the slug. I dug into the category support document: https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/ and if you look at the screenshots there, you also can’t set the slug. It looks like that option is limited to self-hosted sites using the WordPress.org software.
You could work around that by creating custom category pages and give them the name you want to show up in the URL. Then use the display posts shortcode to list out the posts in a specific category. https://en.support.wordpress.com/display-posts-shortcode/

I’ve been looking to do this too. Some of my category name has a slug spelt incorrectly. It’s annoying that wordpress let’s tags have editable slugs, when categories are far more important.
Can developers (staff) add this to suggestions for improvements please?

Work around: create new category with roughly the slug name you want, check the is no tag already using that slug name
Go to Posts, Category, find the old category and click on number of posts in far right column. Select all posts and choose Edit in Bulk actions, apply, add new category name.
Then delete the old category.

Hi there.
The slug name will match up with the name of a category, and you can edit the categories name directly by heading to Posts > Categories in WP Admin. From here, hover over the name of the category you wish to change the name of and Edit.
If you wish for the slug name to differ from the category’s name, then @stothek’s suggestion of using the Display Posts Shortcode would be the best workaround. To go about this, you can create a new page with the slug you wish it to have and then include a similar version of the shortcode to this:
[display-posts include_excerpt="true" category="category-example"]In the above example, you’d replace “category-example” with the name of the category you wished to display. You can also see the support documentation to find different ways to customise posts with the shortcode.
Hope this helps! :)
