Where have my edits gone???

I just spent a large part of my evening editing and adding content to a very long blog post. I was saving my work regularly as I went along. When I finished the post and previewed it, I got a weird error message. Then, when I went back into the post, all my work had disappeared. There was a “more recent auto-save” message at the top of the post, so I clicked that. The revision history it sent me to contained none of the changes I made this evening. I’m tearing my hair out here. I really, really don’t want to lose all that work. Please, please somebody help me!

Sorry if I submitted my question several times. Things really seem to be glitching out here.
I think it said “Are you sure you want to do that?” And I think it said “Your attempt to edit the post… has failed”. Something like that.
The post is called: “Albums of the Year 2011”.

It looks like some of your more recent revisions have more content.
If they’re what you’re looking for, you can restore them following this guide:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-revisions/
If not, I’m afraid that’s all we have on file for your post. Anything else is definitely gone.

I don’t know if this is significant but I published the post last night (scheduled for December 15th), so all the changes I lost were updates. I was saving the changes in the full-screen editor, where you only get a “save” option, not an “update” option. Could that be a problem?

That is entirely possible, though I haven’t heard of an an issue specifically with that before.
Just to be on the safe side next time, try saving as draft from the regular Visual editor.

What are the most recent revisions you can see? All I see is 0:54 on Tuesday morning (which was Monday night, really) then it skips to an autosave at 0:31 on Wednesday morning (i.e. in an hour’s time, by my clock). It doesn’t list any of the many revisions I made on Tuesday evening or even any of the autosaves it had previously listed. Are you seeing something I’m not? Goodness, I hope so!

This might also be significant: I was uploading some media in another tab, then inserting it into the post in the original tab. That all seems to be in my account now. Some if it claims to be attached to the post (but it’s not in there). The rest of it is listed as unattached.

Yeah, those are the same revisions that I see. If what you’re looking for isn’t there, it’s definitely gone.

Wow, that’s incredibly depressing. I guess I’ll have to try to re-do it all from memory. I’ve got a very late, very dull night ahead of me.
Could you maybe get someone to look into the issue of updating published posts in the full-screen editor? Assuming that is the problem, I can’t be the only person to have encountered it.

Yes, I’m looking into the issue now. If I can reproduce it or find some other reports, we should be able to put it on the list of things to fix.

And I realise “incredibly depressing” might seem a little strong but I’m sure you know how it is when you lose a bunch of work.
