Where is 'edit' when on my site?

    Greetings:
When I go to my website, I cannot find a way to edit (to add a blog). What is the procedure? At this point, my only way in is through your email, and that is a touch clumsy.
Sorry to bother you with such a simple problem, but there it is. Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. If you view your own site while logged in, you should see an edit button at either the top or bottom of each post or page. You should also see an edit link in the drop-down menu that appears when you hover your mouse over the My Sites link in the black admin bar while viewing a single post or page. You will also see New Post buttons in both the admin bar and the drop-down menu. Note, however, that those links all go to the New Editor, which is missing several functions and which is prone to lose one’s work, so I won’t recommend using it.

The better option is to bookmark this link to your blog’s dashboard: http://peterzplace.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ From there you can manage all aspects of your blog, including creating posts and pages via the Posts and Pages items in the menu.

Let us know if you need more help with this.

Thank you very, very much for your quick and informative response. I'm in. One thing I would like to know: is it imperative that I remain linked to Facebook? I would like people to go to the website rather than get the edited material that happens on FB. It steals the thunder, I think. Please advise. I am very grateful for your help. And, I love the website already – it is a tremendous opportunity for all the reasons which, of course, you know.

  • Whether or not to post to Facebook is really up to you. On the one hand, it’s a way to get non-bloggers you know on Facebook to visit your site. It’s a promotion channel for your blog. On the other hand, I know of highly successful bloggers who don’t post to Facebook at all.

Keep in mind that if you post to Facebook it only shows a preview of your posts. People will need to click on that preview to read the full post. And if you post your links to Facebook manually rather than letting WordPress.com auto-post it for you, you can control exactly what appears in the preview. But as I said, it’s up to you.
