Where is “Follow Blog” from the Blog Info drop down, admin bar

  • Unknown's avatar

    Used to be when I was visiting other people’s blogs on WordPress, I was able to go to the “Blog Info” drop down on the admin bar and choose “Follow this blog” or something similar. If I clicked this option, it would automatically add the blog to my Blog Surfer on Dashboard. It was a handy way of keeping track of the blogs I wanted to read withing the WordPress community.

    Now I don’t seem to see this option any more. Am I just imagining things, or did this used to be there an disapear? Any suggestions for an easy way to add blogs to my Blog Surfer without having to copy the URL, go to my dashboar, and manually paste it? Am I even making any sense? ;-)

    Appologies if this has already been addressed somewhere else, but I’ve googled it and searched the forums and can’t seem to find an answer. I really liked that feature and now I’m missing it.

    Here’s my blog address: http://girlnormal.wordpress.com/

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Oh yeah…and I forgot to check my spelling before submitting, so please ignore the more obvious errors. Thanks ;-)

    I’m sorry. I have been here for 4 years and have never seen what you are referring to on a wordpress.COM blog. I think it’s possible that you may be referring to wordpress.ORG blogs.

    I do use the Blog Surfer and it takes a second or two to copy & paste the URL into the spot for it and then click. I don’t know any other means of doing this on a wordpress.COM blog but won’t be surprised if it becomes and additional feature in the future.

    I don’t really have any evidence that this option ever existed expept my memory of it and the fact that I have about 20 blogs in my Blog Surfer, and I’m way too lazy to have done that all by hand.
    ;-)

    Thanks for the info anyway.

    Hi There!

    I briefly remember seeing this option but ever since the new admin bar was activated certain options that use to be there are no longer there for example such as the edit option for posts and pages was gone but it was brought up in a forum post and the option was re-added… I will modlook this thread to alert staff since support is closed until the 16th and maybe they can give more insight why the option is gone and if they plan to re-add the option..

    (Even Though some options we’re taken away we did gain new options in place of the few options we have lost…)

    But for now you will need to add any blogs you want to follow manually…

    @slik

    You’re welcome! TiTi, = )

    I believe what you want is now under the “Subscribe” menu labeled “Subscribe to Blog”.
    It’s right next the Blog Info menu when you’re logged in to your WordPress.com account.

    @tfardella

    I don;t see such option here is a screen shot http://screencast.com/t/MjI1Yzg0MWM

    @tfardella
    I am confirming that there is no such link on my navigation bar in my wordpress.COM blog. My va bar is displaying exactly what slik’s screenshot shows.

    akvalasek is looking for “Blog Surfer” which is now found this way:
    My Account —> Global Dashboard —> Blog Surfer

    Also there are Blog Stats, My Comments, Readomatic, Tag Surfer, My Blogs and Subscriptions

    @tess

    @akvalasek Is speaking of an option on the nav bar that gave the option to add a blog to the blog surfer without manually adding a blog to the blog surfer via to the dashboard…

    @tfardella says the options is there but under a new label which is not found on the nav bar at the moment…

    I don’t think so Tess. I believe that Staff are working on the navigation bar and we are likely to see new additions to it. I also believe that for a short period of time there was a for a brief time there probably was a “Follow this blog” link that was appearing on the nav bar in what was probably a testing phase.

    akvalasek asked:

    Any suggestions for an easy way to add blogs to my Blog Surfer without having to copy the URL, go to my dashboard, and manually paste it?

    Thus my answer: I don’t know any other means of doing this on a wordpress.COM blog but won’t be surprised if it becomes and additional feature in the future.

    Yes, I realized as soon as I reread the thread. Sorry for the mistake!

    @Tess
    Not really a mistake :) I do expect we will see “buddypress” type changes coming down the pipe. :)

    Thanks everyone for your feedback and help. I feel MUCH better just knowing that this option did actually exist and I wasn’t just loosing my mind. Even if it never gets added back (which would be a bummer) I’d still feel relieved know I wasn’t going crazy. ;-)

    Oh yeah, and while I’m thinking of it, the “Search” box that used to be at the far right of the admin bar seems to be missing too. Any thoughts? Is it missing or has it been moved? Should I repost this as a new support topic thread? Thanks.

    Here’s a screenshot: http://girlnormal.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/missing_search_box.png
