Where is my canceled domain?

  Hi, you note that if I cancel my domain , it may no longer be available. How do I find out if it will become available again (In other words, how do I figure out what happened to it?)? Does WordPress hold them for a certain amount of time? Thank you.

  Hi there,

  After a domain is cancelled, it will be held by our registrar partners (Wild West Domains) for a few days before it is released back to the registry (Verisign for .coms and .nets, PIR for .orgs), who hold on to it for a further few days to few weeks.

  You can always check the status of any domain by doing what is called a “whois” lookup on it, which is free.
