Where is my site

  • Unknown's avatar

I have had a site I created using WordPress but it’s been years since I made any edits. When I log into WordPress it says I do not have a site. Any ideas how I can find it?

What is the URL of your site running on the wordpress.com platform? Usually you can see the accountname connected to that site. Next go to https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/ to restore access.

Thank you for your reply. Can you point me to where I would enter the URL? When I click on the My Site tab in WordPress there are no fields to enter information.

The old site you’re looking for won’t have any connection to this new account you created 3 hours ago. Do you remember the full address of your site? Was it definitely hosted here at WordPress.com? Do you remember the username/account? Can you still access the email address connected to the site? If so see: https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

I do remember the full address of my site. It was created with WordPress using and Envato theme but hosted by GoDaddy. I do not remember the username/account and I do not know the email address connected to the site.

How can I edit the site?

    Thank you all again

You still haven’t revealed the address of your site but if it was hosted by GoDaddy surely they are the people you should be approaching. If the site had a domain that you let expire no doubt site and content have gone.

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

Please understand that I am looking to edit the content on my site and I use WordPress for that purpose.

I have responded to your suggestion by asking where I should enter the URL in order to get the account information associated with it. Can you please respond to that? I know my URL as previously indicated and do not understand why I need to “reveal” it to you.

Also, I am not having any issue involving an expired domain as you seem to think so I do not understand why I would need to contact GoDaddy.

  • Hi there,

WordPress and WordPress.com are not the same thing.

WordPress is the software with which your site was built, and that software is made by a community of unpaid volunteers on WordPress.org.

WordPress.com is just one of many hosting providers for that software, and your site was hosted with GoDaddy, not with us, so we don’t have any control over your site. Only GoDaddy has access to is, as it’s on their servers (assuming your hosting plan is still active), so only they can help you regain access to it.

I have responded to your suggestion by asking where I should enter the URL in order to get the account information associated with it

There is nowhere you can enter the URL to get account information associated with it. If the site was hosted on WordPress.com, you could use our account recovery process to regain access to the site, but only after you tell us the account information associated with it to verify your ownership.

But your site was hosted by GoDaddy, not by us, so we cannot help you regain access to the site.

I know my URL as previously indicated and do not understand why I need to “reveal” it to you.

If you tell us your site’s URL we can tell for certain where it is hosted, and whether it’s using our modified version of the WordPress software, or the original open source version found on WordPress.org.

Without knowing your site URL at most we can make an educated guess, unless you already know where you had it hosted as in this case.

Thank you for pointing out this is the site for hosting.

For future readers who have the issue of trying to figure out how to edit their WordPress content the answer is to type http://www.%5Byour URL]/wp-admin in your browser and voila. That will take you to the backend of your WordPress created site.
