Where is my website? It is blank

  • Unknown's avatar

I am frustrated beyond belief. I have spent 2 months trying to change my website host from Blog.com to you. I changed my registrar from Blog.com to Hover. After many problems it is supposed to be fixed. Earlier today I could get to my website. But now when I go to the website an empty blog comes up. It looks like mine except that it is empty. This is great. For the last 30 days I have written practically nothing because no one can get to it. I stopped promoting it. Earlier today I could get to it and now when I try to bring it up I get nothing, nada, ziltch. This means one more day of writing nothing I can post. When I was able to get to it an hour ago I tried to get to the dashboard. It still had to try to log into the dashboard at Blog.com and of course, because nothing works right at Blog.com it just timed out. I don’t want a blog here that I still have to go through Blog.com to write anything because they have absolutely no customer service and they go down every week. When something goes wrong how can you help me with something that was done at Blog? Would somebody PLEASE fix this!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This has nothing to do with the thread I had where my emails were coming through blank!!!

I asked – Where is my website??? I click on it or put the address in the bar and I get a blank version of my website with no posts.

Go back to the thread Staff are already following and helping you in please and post there.

Note that the domain is already redirecting properly from http://mynameisjamiedotnet.wordpress.com to http://mynameisjamie.net/

We cannot assist you with getting the content out of blog.com. That’s their issue not ours. You need to get an XML file of your content from that site and then import it into your blog here. http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/

I have to get an xml file??? Wh

  • Unknown's avatar

Your content that’s in your blog.com site has to be exported out of that site in an XML file. Then you can impost that file into your wordpress.com blog.

If you cannot get an XML file of your content from your blog.com site then you have to go to Google’s cache and copy and paste it post by post into new posts on your wordpress.com site.

I followed your link. I went to tools>import. It lists all kinds of formats that you can import from but Blog.com is not on the list. So what do I do?

  • Unknown's avatar

Please use the form at the top of this page http://support.blog.com/exporting-your-sites-content/ and ask blog.com Staff how to export your site’s content out of it.

Thank you for trying. When you pull of that link it is blank. It tells you nothing. There are other links that work, though. You can find a place to start a claim ticket. I am familiar to this. I filed claim after claim for weeks for the authentication code until finally one day I got an email with the number. I think the problem is that they have dropped the ball. There is no one actually servicing the blogs anymore.

I went to google cache and they had one page there. You can see it on the wordpress website. I realized then, since I had to put it in as a new post that I will lose the timeline of the posts if I had to put them in one at a time on any given day. I lose the fb likes and I would have to put all pictures back in one at a time. This is an enourmous amount of work. I was naive that to think that all I needed was to change my registrar and have the blog sent here. The information here makes it sound easy. Maybe a new one should be written explaining how difficult it really is. I give up. Seriously. I won't be able to move it and I don't there is anyone who can actually help me. I pointed the website back to blog.com. I have no choice. I can't get to the blog any other way. If there is anything you need to do complete this and send it back please do.

I have copies of the first 24 of my posts. I put another one in the in the blog to see how the paste would go. It is not from the cache. Of course none of the links would work. When I think of the work I would have to do to bring things all up it's depressing. When it finally gets back to Blog.com I will make copies of everything I don't have saved right now. Is there any other way to do this that would allow me to change the post date when I paste it here so they would all be the right date? Much of it is date sensitive. If I can get it to look the same could I leave it at Blog.com and slowly transfer it over here to the free wordpress site and then when it's done, then point the servers here? At least then I would a functioning website while I worked on it.

And lastly, What about media “likes” etc? Do they transfer? And stats – the websites hits I have so far? I have google analytics. Would I have to start al over?

  • Unknown's avatar

Likes do not transfer. Stats do not transfer. YOu cannot use Google Analytics on WordPress.com.

You can easily change the post date by editing the post and tinkering with the little calendar icon on the right-hand side.

If you could get an export file, it would be done automatically, comments and all.

Thank you for your effort. Unfortunately Blog.com doesn’t have a support staff. I think at one time they were a reputable place to have a blog but now there is no one there. I think they are out fishing on a permanent basis. There is no way you can ask a support question but I will keep trying to find a way. When the nameservers have been changed to point back to Blog.com I will make sure I have saved all the rest of my posts and will copy and paste them into WP. If I can change the post date that is the most important. I hate losing my stats but I suppose you have something comparable for that. I haven’t looked. When all is done then I can change the nameservers again back to you. I realize I can just leave it at Blog but if ever have any issues, here, at least, I can email WP. I have been upset – not directed at anyone – it’s just frustration. So, once again, thank you.

If the staff there are AWOL I wouldn’t count on your blog staying up that long, unfortunately.

I quite see what you mean about them: http://support.blog.com/exporting-your-sites-content/

    This might help? https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/blogger/ZOiAt16Q8j0

And don’t worry about changing the dates. You can actually edit them all from the dashboard Posts page, without needing to open and edit each post. I forgot; you can just click Quick Edit on each post and change the date, so you can do twenty at a time in a couple of minutes. Much easier.
