Where is the "Advanced Settings" function??

  • Unknown's avatar

I want to disable comments on my blog. I have already changed the Discussion settings so that future posts do not have that option, and now I want to remove it from the 20 posts that I’ve already made.

I found the Help page for “Disabling Comments on Published Posts” which says to open an existing post and then go to Settings -> Advanced. However… there is no “Advanced” anywhere under the Settings dropdown! There is only: General, Writing, Reading, Discussion, Media, Sharing, Polls, AdControl, Email Post Changes, OpenID, and Webhooks. Webhooks is the last thing under Settings, and below that is just the Collapse Menu arrow.

I have looked at the existing posts as Visual and as Text format, and in every page of Settings, and for the life of me cannot find “Advanced” anywhere.

Where the heck is this thing? LOL

Have spent about 45 minutes trying to figure out how to get rid of the Comments (both the Comment Prompt and the box itself) function on the already-published posts, but can’t figure out how.

Am using Chateau theme (free version).

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It’s in the Beep Beep Boop editor which is the editor I do not use.

All WordPress blogs by default have comments open on all Pages and Posts. Your visitors click the post tiles or the comment links or comment bubbles on the front page of the blog and they are directed to the full post appearing on it’s own page where the comment boxes appear at the end of the posts.

Note that comments are collapsed on the front page of the blog because if they were not then the blog would take ages to load and that would mean visitors would click out rather than waiting.

You can enable and disable comments on WordPress.com blogs on this page > Settings > Discussion Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/

You can override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page.

Important Note: By default, new blogs on WordPress.com will have the Discussion hidden. You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules

What/where is the Beep Beep Boop editor?

  • Unknown's avatar

Followup: Okay.. found the Beep Beep Boop editor which is the pencil/paper icon, BUT….

… the silly thing is just hanging there cycling through three bubbles and refuses to do anything else. Gaaak! (I now see why you don’t use it)

Is there any other way to get rid of the Comments paraphernalia on existing post? The silly BBBeditor refuses to load at all. :-( (everything else works fine… just not that)

Did you try what I posted above?
All posts are here > Dashboard > Posts > All Posts
hover over the post title and click the edit link.

All pages are here > Dashboard > Pages > All Pages
hover over the page title and click the edit link.

I did try that, but actually I just now discovered that it’s not the Edit link, but the QUICK EDIT link that allows comments to be turned off! I never used Quick Edit because it’s so limited.

Crazy that the Comments option would be only in Quick Edit but nowhere else!

So now, having done that, there is no Comments box below the post, but instead just “Comments closed” in text. However, the Leave a Comment/Reply squib is still there next to my post title (even though no Comment can be left.)

So there’s no way to eliminate the default Leave a Reply squib? It looks silly to have that hanging there if making a comment isn’t an option …. I’ll have to think of something else to substitute in that space which might be suited to appearing in every post, since WP doesn’t accept a “blank”.

Thanks for your help, hope my locating of the “Advanced Settings” function (which isn’t where the current Help page shows it to be, but at least it’s somewhere, LOL) will also help others looking for the same thing. :-)

I don’t know how to resolve that so please type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff help. Hi there,

Okay.. found the Beep Beep Boop editor which is the pencil/paper icon, BUT….
… the silly thing is just hanging there cycling through three bubbles and refuses to do anything else. Gaaak!

Sorry about that! There was an issue with that editor yesterday, and our team launched a fix for it so the editor is now loading. If you still have trouble accessing that editor, or if you have trouble disabling comments on your posts there, please let me know!
