Where is the directory people keep talking about?

  Hi there – I just signed up for my blog this week (with the upgrade for editable CSS). I’m a newbie and know basic html and css. I cannot figure out where to access my “directory!” If someone can please tell this newbie step by step how to locate my files, I would so appreciate it. I’m wondering if maybe I don’t have access because I signed up for the “free” blog (even though I upgraded to be able to edit the CSS. Perhaps I have to have purchased a higher level of wordpress to have access to my files/directory?? Thank you ahead of time,
