Where is the homepage building feature?

There was a wordpress.com feature I used to be able to find, but I can’t find it anymore. I think it was called ‘Design Your Own Theme’ but I’m not 100% sure.

I previously found it in wordpress.com/themes as a pop-up in the middle of the list of themes.

It was a feature that you click and it would set you up with a homepage/landing page layout with all the sections you want in its recommended order from top to bottom. Hero, About, Testimonials, Call to Action, Footer, etc.

I know I can add patterns anywhere anytime, by myself, by using the Gutenberg editor in any post or page. But it was only through this feature I’m talking about that it recommended sections be set in a certain order.

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

Hello there, In a very roundabout way, I found that the Design Your Own feature has been deprecated.

While I was looking at the Assembler theme’s demo site, I clicked the “Learn More” button and was taken to the WordPress.com Quick Launch tutorial, where the above appears. Clicking on the signup flow opens another window that never loads.

I know it’s not the same as the DYO tool, but if you want to start from relative scratch, I’d suggest either the Assembler or Creatio 2 theme.

Staff, if by chance you look in on this thread, the DYO signup flow link is still active on that Quick Launch page (see above), it opens a page but never actually launches the DYO tool. However, it does create a new site in the user’s account.

  • @samuelsantaella As @justjennifer mentioned, the Design Your Own Theme feature has been retired. While it’s not exactly the same experience, you can still use a theme like Assembler and add patterns as you want through Site Editor should you are wanting a similar build experience for your site.

    Thank you for your responses.

I know I can add patterns wherever I want. But the Site Editor doesn’t recommend an order for them on the homepage like this feature did.

The value in this feature for me was that it recommended homepage sections in a certain order. Could this aspect be kept or translated — maybe as a helper in wordpress.com/learn, even if it’s text rather than an interactive thing?

I’m not referring to how to use Gutenberg patterns, but how to organize or structure information on the homepage. Less how to use a pencil, more what to draw.
