If you’re on wp.com you can’t. We use shared themes and without buying the CSS upgrade we have no ability to change the themes.

Even then it’s only the CSS and not the HTMl.

http://faq.wordpress.com should have more information for you. :)

You can create a static front page though for your blog. Create a Page at Dashboard -> Write -> Page (and while you’re there, go ahead and create a second page, this one blank. You’ll need it in a bit.)

Then go to Dashboard -> Options -> Reading where you can assign a Page for your front page and the second, blank one to list your posts in.

    Hope this helps,

@cornell: thanks for the reply. as per my finding we only have option for changing CSS. and you second it.

@drmike : But that will show a static page and not my latest post. What i wanted was, a little tweak in one of the theam that i have already selected.

Do you mean you simply want to change to a new template? That’s at Dashboard –> Presentation.

I thought the poster meant the home page when they said default page. That’s what I was thinking.

Maybe if you told us what specifically you were trying to change, things would be a bit clearer.

The themes are uneditable outside of the CSS because we’re on a shared environment. if you were allowed to change them, you would be changing everybody’s and they would be doing the same to you. You can edit the CSS though with the upgrade. It’s on your dashboard at Dashboard -> upgrades.
